"Unlike certain stretches of season three, these tables never lacked action. For one entire session, the table agreed that any player winning a pot with seven-deuce would collect $500 from everyone else at the table. The $1,200 straddle was a regular fixture and, when that was not enough, a $2,400 re-straddle took over. Players raised and bet "in the dark". All-in players "ran it twice" and negotiated insurance deals with their table mates. In a single five hour period, there were seventeen all-ins, with eleven of them called! Can you say "rebuy"?"

In my mind "action" and agreeing to run it twice and buying insurance are opposites. I hope we don't get teased with big pots only to have them split or have the players negotiate down to a much smaller amount.

I'm pretty sure the insurance has to do with Hellmuth since he's such a nit.

Million dollar pot? That is ridiculous if they were still only playing 300/600/1200.

[/ QUOTE ] there were double stradles to 2400.

Doyle Brunson, when another player showed a horrible hand after pulling off a huge bluff: "Now I remember how I became a millionaire."

Do you know for a fact that they were straddling every hand to $2400, or even on that hand?

Re: high stakes poker season 4?

Let's settle the confusion once and for all. At the table where the minimum buy-in was $500k, there were 3 blinds in play of $300/$600/$1200 with a $100 ante on every hand to create even more action. There was not an additional straddle of $2400 employed on every hand, but it did happen on occasion.

At the tables with the $100,000 minimum buy-in where the blinds were the normal $300/$600 with a $100 ante, a $1200 straddle was often used, and sometimes a double straddle of $2400 was also in play.

I always laugh a bit when I hear about these pros in high stakes cash games running the river - TWICE. Granted, everything is relative, but if these players are going to be allowed to run the river more than once, for god sakes, run it three times! All you're doing is reducing variance, so if players are up for making a deal to do just that, then they should always run it 3 times.

I have to assume they are only allowed to run it two times on the show - but if they're allowed to run it three, there's no reason *not* to run it 3 times if they have the option.

If they don't have the option - shame on the producers. Gabe can explain it to the viewers at home. There's a lot of money involved.
