Robert Miles is the [censored], but I'm not quite sure if it "fits" what you're looking for.

Are you looking for things like the soundtrack to Blade Runner?

Actually, after hearing the songs you mentioned... this is exactly what you're looking for. Look for anything done by Vangelis. The soundtracks to Blade Runner and Cosmos are great.

Yeah I'm listening to samples of the Blade Runner soundtrack. You're right. This is pretty much exactly the kind of music I'm looking for, though I'm now getting interested in sampling the wider genre as well.

Hi OOT,

I occasionally like listening to brooding, Hearts of Space/trance kinda music. The first song I can think of that sounds like what I'm trying to describe is Treefingers from Kid A.

I am pretty much clueless as to where to find this kind of music, other than streaming the HOS website, which is of little use since I basically only listen to music in my car.

Can anyone out there point me in the right direction? Artists, soundtracks, compilations, etc?

Despite the name, "trance" music is completely unlike Treefingers. Trance is actually very uptempo dance music. To quote wikipedia: "trance music is generally characterized by a tempo of between 130 and 160 bpm, featuring repeating melodic synthesizer phrases, and a musical form that builds up and down throughout a track, often crescendoing or featuring a breakdown"

What you are describing is Ambient music. I can't really help with this other than to link to the only Ambient album I have: Selected Ambient Works by Aphex Twin.

Yeah I suspected I was mislabeling it. Thanks for the tip and the recommendation.
