It makes sense, doesn't it? Rake-aware players are smarter players. Smarter players aren't where the action is. I say hurray for a huge discrepency between places, because the more expensive room will have the bigger fish.

Tho' maybe my perspective is flawed because I'm in the Bay Area and a $6 time charge seems normal to me.

I'm not sure what's to be gained by starting a campaign here. You're wrapping your entire 2+2 identity around a minor gripe with a multi-billion dollar international corporation? Aren't there better things to do?

Yes. It just occured to me that if OP truly believes what he says then he shouldn't be concerned at all about what Harrah's does.
If Boomtown's service and quality of games and everything else is equal then you can just play at Boomtown because of the better rake and what Harrah's does with their rake is completel irrelevant to you.


It's like 2 gas-stations are right next to each other and one of them sells gas for $0.20/gal less.
I just laugh at the other station and go where it's cheaper.
I'm not angered in the least that the other station is charging too much.

Also, wouldn't you be more successful if you tried to rally NOLA players, rather than us? At my room, the higher limit players wanted a certain structure of tournament, so they talked with management about it, and now we have them. I think a better course of action would to get the players in NOLA to have conversations with management at Harrah's. Nothing big or itching for a fight, just a simple, "I like your room, but I think the time charge on your NL is too high, so I'll be playing at Boomtown." If enough people do that, you have a better shot at implementing change than an anonymous letter-writing campaign.

Incidentally, have you chatted with anyone at Harrah's about their policy and reasons?

I am going this week for the WSOP circuit. I don't even think they have 1/2 NL last time I was there. $6 is an extremely high rake but do realize besides boomtown, its the only choice.

Besides with the limited space they have for the poker room it doesnt suprised me their rake is jacked up.

Harrah's is a legitimate land casino, whereas Boomtown is a riverboat with very limited capacity. I'm not really enthused with the $6/down + $1/hand JP drop, but the games are excellent. Boomtown's rake is low in an effort to bring in business. It didn't work for the other boats. It won't work for them.

indeed......it's always been my impression that $3 per hand at say 3-6 or $4 per hand at 4-8 limit (i'll forget about the jackpot since they charge that in the timed game also) would equate to $90 or $120 (assuming 30 hands per hour) in those games. Harrah's is taking $108 in rake every hour.

Maybe every hand in all of these games isn't raked fully, but I think you see my point that, if anything, the total rake is actually pretty close.

The great thing about this is that the loose players have more money to lose because they are not paying a higher than average percentage of the rake any more.

I like the time charge and would bet that it runs pretty close to whatever you pay in rake anyways.

I'd gladly pay an extra $2/hr to play at Harrah's and not drive through that war zone to get to freaking boomtown. Plus, Harrah's is far nicer as well.

You seriously go 30 mins out of your way, each way, to avoid the time charge? Because that's about how far past Harrah's I recall driving to get to Boomtown. You are a better person than I.
