I thought guids' prediction would stop this, but it is the internet.

Speculation is that it was a ricochet, information I gleaned from the VERY FIRST SENTENCE OF THE LINKED ARTICLE. [censored] moron.

It says POSSIBLY by richochet, which I believe is doubtful. But yeah, in any case, it definitely takes four people firing to take 1 person out.

I dont think the "moron" comment was very necessary.

Remember when you said: "Sounds like they were all trying to be badasses (typical cops) and each wanted to take the suspect out, and in the process fired directly into one of their own."? With no evidence whatsoever? I stand by my comment.

If I were in a group of cops who shot each other, ricochet is pretty mild compared to the crazy sh*t I would be making up.

so this is standard for a situation like this yet cops take basically no action when they know some crazed lunatic is inside a school shooting unnarmed, innocent students?

the difference is with Cho, there were possible hostages, becuase at that point the cops dont know exactly whats going on yet (ie didnt know he was just a loon), and with the kid, he was alone in the house..Im guessing. There is standard procedure for this stuff that was developed by tons of people with way way more experience and brains in this stuff than ANYONE in this forum or the media. If they followed procedure, than thats the end of it imo.

Re: Cops shoot kid in face, burn down house, wtf?

Procedures are only attempts at dealing with reality the best one can. For situations like this, I'd bet those procedures were designed with the very best of intentions and all the expertise and experience that could possibly be brought to bear. But still, they don't define the best approach every time or describe reality, merely hope to. There's always room for human judgment, and human error.

It's no more good to put perfect faith in established procedure than to expect perfect performance out of fallible human beings. One can critically limit clarity and initiative, and the other can pull the rug out from under any moral understanding. Anyone in a situation like this is crossing his fingers.
