In fact, I'll reward anyone who can figure out how to get me onto stars on campus with $50.

Get the Verizon Wireless Broadband card so you don't have to rely on other internet sources or hot-spots.

SHIP IT!!!

This sounds the exact same problem I'm having at home. Can connect everywhere but Stars and can connect to Stars from other locations.

Thanks. Link?

I tried the userport=443 thing, but not the line before. I'll try that tonight.

If you're interested the series of posts on this in the software forum.

You've probably seen the commercials for it.

There's the ads for the wireless card from Sprint which they claim always downloads 5x faster than Cingular (I've hard they have iffy coverage-area though).

One of the commercials is 2 guys sitting on a bench with their laptops.
"You have Cingular?"
"No. Sprint."
The Sprint guy downloads it super-fast and says he's done and walks away.
The slower-speed Cingular guy is stuck there on the bench waiting for the download to finish with a vulture peering over his shoulder.

This isn't a specific endorsement of Sprint though. Just trying to trigger your memory of the commercial.

Anyway, it's just a card you slide into the slot in your laptop. The card costs $50 or $100 or so. The monthly internet-access is $60/mth or so.

It's broadband-like speeds in most big cities. Dial-up speeds anywhere else you can get a cell-phone signal (like travelling down the highway).

Broadband-like speed means that that is what they claim but it isn't really quite as fast as that. Just a bit slower.

you can call a Verizon rep and ask about it.

They had a money-back satisfaction guarantee when I got on it.
Return it within the first 15 days and pay nothing I think.

I've used the Sprint one. Not quite as fast as broad band, but damned fast. The AT&T one sucked ass. The Sprint one was the way to go.
