In limit, when someone check-raises you on the river, and you have a pair of 2s, you're beat. You can try and figure out if he spiked a set of 4s or a wheel, but it's mostly a waste of energy, just fold.

I REALLY don't think this is where the thought process ends. Keep in mind he has to risk it being checked through with a monster. How often were you double barreling grim? I would say against me, you have to be an idiot to c/r this river with anything and I would ALWAYS calls. That doesn't make c/r'ing right though. A3 is the only hand that makes sense here, but only if you know what you have been betting 2 and 3 streets with.

Of course if you don't know this or he doesn't you really just have to fold IMO.

Re: hand reading question

Think it´s a tough fold to make as I´d probably expect him to lead with 44 or A3, so something weird like XXdd might be in his range often enough after the check-raise. On the other hand, he would need you to fold 25+% of the time to attempt a bluff here, which seems unlikely with the kinds of odds you will be getting.

I'd call here. I'd just expect him to lead too often with a big hand. His hand just doesn't add up to anything sensible, and I have a pair.

The only way you should call here in my opinion is if a bird flies over and sh!ts an extra 10BB into the pot. He has A3 a ton, 44 or 76 once in a while, and something that is worse than your hand virtually never.

I almost always fold here.

anyone else HATE this river bet as much as me? Im pretty much always checking behind there. No worse hand is calling in that spot. You can only get c/r'd like you did, and that sucks. As played, easy fold IMO.

villian is unknown to me but i normally classify unknown as 'solid' or 'tag' until they prove otherwise.

i'm not a limit player predominantly but i am a decent NL handreader but this hand really puzzled me. i put him on ace high until he checkraised me. is it most likely he rivered a better pair and is going for a sick value cr? does anyone call here getting 8:1?

Call/fold depending on how I feel at the time (lean towards a fold.)...seems like a bad spot to almost always do anything.
