this reasoning makes no sense - you could just as easily say 'what if one of these 10 million people cured AIDS and cancer' - we know nothing about these people so we have to disregard thinking like this.

Yes;Yes..it's not really that close. I don't care that much about how I'm remembered, and while I do care about my life, I don't see anything special enough about it to sacrifice 10 million people.

How about the fact that it's yours and it's the only one you'll get? What makes you think your life is any less significant than 10 million others?
