if person A says that something will happen by "8p sharp" and a wager is placed with person B who "takes the over," does person A win if the event occurs by 8:00:59 or does he lose at 8:00:01?

[/ QUOTE ]

The over/under is 8:00:00. If it happens at 8:00:59 or 8:00:01, person B wins.

why do you think "8p sharp" implies 8:00:00? why stop there? why doesn't it imply 8:00:00:00, with person A losing at 8:00:00:01?

[/ QUOTE ]

sure why not

regardless, if the guy isn't there by the time your digital watch turns 8:00, B loses

Everyone, take a step back for a second and realize what you're spending time discussing.

large amounts of money have been won and lost over matters much more trivial.

He loses at 8:00:01 obv, I can't believe this is even a question.

[/ QUOTE ]

It could be either. It just needs to defined before the bet is entered ito. I cant believe there is any other answer.

so you are assuming perfectly synchronized clocks/watches? at least synchronized to the second? wouldn't it be far more reasonable to expect synchronization to the minute?

This is a decent thread idea. Everyone has an opinion, it's meaningless but kinda funny. What more do you want?

8:00 sharp is anytime the minute hand is > 7:59 and < 8:01. Whoever called whatever happened wins, whoever is disagreeing is a bitch.
