I think this is an important point. I think it is ok to slowplay against a short stack if you think by slowplaying you can get them to committ the rest of their stack. For example I just played this hand:

Hero AJ in CO with $100 at UB 100NL.

Folded around Hero raises to $3.5. Button calls and has only $20 left.

Flop JJ10.

I bet this against a big stack to jam the pot and for deception purposes, since they'll never think I was actually betting trips with ace kicker. But against this short stack I decided to check figuring that any bet would be a signifcant part of his stack and make him feel more committted to pot. Thankfully Villain moved all-in with A-10.

But this is the only time I slowplay. And I also almost never check/raise, because it makes your hand look big. I think leading out with a monster is much more deceptive.

Good post. First thing you should learn at SSNL is that slowplaying is pointless in all but the most extreme situations.

A while ago, when I was high and had just began reading 2+2, I started to understand something fundemental about poker.

When you have a good hand, you want a ton of money in the pot.
When you have a drawing hand, you want to get your hand made cheaply.
When you are unsure if you have the best hand, you want to keep the pot small.

Doesn't seem like that big a deal now, but at the time it seemed revolutionary.

I have a question about the quad 6s hand. It's off the point of your post, but the hand is in this thread, so I'm asking here.

Why raise preflop, UTG with 56? And, assuming the answer is to disguise your hand on this hand and future hands so hand reading is a problem for your opposition, then what do you do when you miss the flop entirely, and villain cold calls your continuation bet (you do make a cb, right?) What factors do you consider? Do you just keep bluffing on the turn and again on the river? Do you give up and check/fold?

This seems like a hand you will usually miss the flop with, so what are your typical lines when you miss the flop UTG with 56 (or equivalent) and why?
