Vista is glitchy with certain software. Vista is also a bloated DRM-laden monstrosity. You are better going with XP for now and switching to Vista after a service pack comes out (maybe). Dell will let you switch to XP if you call them. Insist even if they say no. Or buy your computer from a reputable custom builder.

If you call them you may be able to get XP for it. Poker software is still a little twitchy for Vista, that's about the only reason to not get Vista with new hardware.

You're right, they will build the notebook w/ XP instead of Vista on request.

Use it much? Actually, it doesn't matter if you have or just read Slashdot, no one cares about it. Really.

Yes I ran it on a VM. And I think people do care that it runs slower and isn't as stable as XP. Really.

YMMV I've been running if for a few months and haven't seen any instability. My point is that outside the circle of geeks that will get frothy about this, no one cares. They are going to use whatever comes with their machine.

Its a refurbished laptop...Don't think I can upgrade to WUXGA(what exactly is the difference again)
I doubt they'll switch it to XP unless its a new custom built one through their store

Re: Best Laptop for Poker

WUXGA is at least 1600x1200, which is good if you multitable but makes everything really small for everything else.

i think what is listed above...is 1900/1200 or whatever which is just as good seeing that I usually only play 4 tables and i can always resize

If you have a good computer store in your area you might want to stop by and see if they have anything with that resolution to get an idea of the size of stuff. I've never seen 1900x1200 but have a 204B which is around 20" and 1600x1200 and it's pretty small. Doubt if it would be a deal breaker, or if you will even find something with that resolution but may be something to think about.

I agree with kerowo. I run 1920x1200 on a 17" laptop screen. I like having the screen space, but other people have to strain their eyes to read fonts on my screen. It's a matter of taste. I would definitely check out a laptop running that resolution before buying one.
