A quick note on low limit games. When I played the 4 Queens's $3 game (several years ago so I don't know if they still have it) you were welcome to make the $3 minimum place bet. However, they only paid even money since they don't deal in fractions. If you wanted to be paid the normal odds you had to make the minimum bets Stylos lists.

If you end up at pretty much any strip casino the minimum will be $5 if you're lucky and they probably won't take place bets in non-standard denominations.

A place bet is generally 1 unit bet flat with 4 or 5 unit having odds. A $3 place bet is simply 1 flat, 2 with odds on the 4/5/9/10 -- it will pay $5 on the 4/10, and $4 on the 5/9. On the 6/8, it depends if the table deals half dollars -- if not, it pays even money. If it does pay halves, it is usually considered as .50 flat with 2.50 in odds and will pay 3.50.

A $3 4/5/9/10 always pay odds.
