I think it boils down to this: are you looking to merely cash or win? If you are looking to hang on and cash with a chip and a chair, fold. You know your chances aren't great, where IMHO your chances are better by playing the hand win or bust.

If you really know the other guy has trips, yeah, you fold. Thing is, you don't know. If you have a dead on tell, that's one thing, but if the other guy will call a raise from an Ace with split Fives, he'll probably call with a lot of other things, which makes that paired door card less scary. I think, generally speaking, if you have Aces on third street and less than 3 BB in front of you, your money is going in.
