Re: Determining Bet Pot Amount

Because in pot-limit you're allowed to raise pot, not to bet pot.

betting the pot implies you first call the bet of 50... then bet/raise the pot.

Bucktotal explained it best here.

You need to put in your "call" before you can determine the pot amount.

this makes sense...so the POT is your call plus what is already in there...then you are RAISING pot 375 above their 150...thus 525....sick

thanks fellas

You could define it differently, but with this system, the last caller/bettor before your pot-sized raise is always getting 2:1 pot odds, if there's no action between you two. If it was bet pot, his odds would be different every time.

Best way to figure it out on the fly is add the existing pot size to the minimum amount you're allowed to raise. It's not exact at all times, but it's close enough.

Re: Determining Bet Pot Amount

There is a reason the old school poker movies say "I see your bet, and I raise XXX". "Seeing" the bet makes it easier to count the pot in order to raise pot.

Just don't try this now a days because it is antiquated, unnecessary, and will get called as a string bet.
