The decline started when they refused to compete against the Borgata and the Taj for the poker revenue. They should have expanded the room to the outer slot bank with about another thirty tables. They had 6/12, 10/20 games. They were doing a great job with the daily tourneys. What the hell happened?

They also used to have a 10/20/30 stud, a 15/30/45 stud 8, and some Omaha games. The 6/12 & 10/20 HE games might just be casualties of the "poker boom", and the abundance of 1/2 NL games. I think the pink chip game is pretty much on life support now too, from what I've seen/read.

And that sucks!

I wonder if they're talking about the public bathrooms located throughout the casino, and not hotel bathrooms.

I think they are talking about one housekeeper cleaning 10 rooms in a shift. This is impossible to do for a first class property. The GF of a friend of mine is a housekeeper at Trump International in NYC and she cleans at most 4 suites in a shift. Most days it is 3.

BTW, here's a tip from her: Don't ever drink from the glasses in the bathrooms at hotels. Sometimes the housekeepers will clean them with dirty cloths.

Yes it does. I occasionally play the 4/8 game there, it's better than any 3/6 game in AC (and Taj's 5/10) IMHO. I usually play Trop's 5/10 stud, which is also better than Taj's 5/10 games.
I didn't really play 6/12 or 10/20 when they spread it there, too big for me at the time. I'd definitely give them a shot now though.
I think everyone who plays poker somewhat seriously in AC should play the pink chip game at least once in their life...

I've always had a soft spot for the Trop, it's the first place I ever played poker in a casino. I really hope they can pull their head out of their a$%^s and turn it around. It's getting pretty sad over there. I'd rather not have to play at the Taj all the time....

This man speaks the truth..on both points. I've heard worse about what gets used to clean the glasses.

The decline started when Trop was bought by Columbia Sussex Corporation who then executed mass firings to trim costs and fatten the bottom line.

Seriously, the Trop poker room has been bad (for all but the lowest stakes) since at least 2000. I played 10-20 there once in 2000, and it was me and nine of the most miserable people I've ever played against at the only 10-20 game that was running. There were no higher games running (and this is well before the Borgata). (I remember it was 2000, because all anyone else at the table was talking about was how George Bush was going to save the country from Al Gore). I haven't played there since.

The last time I stayed at the Trop, only one out of four elevators was working as everyone was checking out. As you might imagine, this created somewhat of a congestion. It's not a good feeling to be practically trapped on your floor for half an hour. Incidentally, this is why it was my last time at the Trop.

Re: Tropicana Story in Philadelphia Daily News today

I was in AC yesterday. After playing some Craps at the Hilton, I walked down to the Trop. I was planning to play some 1/2NL shortstacked. I walked in and the room just had this horrible vibe, and I walked out.

A little OT, but for those that were questioning the possible BBJ at Tropicana, a floor person I spoke to said they were working on implementing one, but probably would not be up December 1. He stated the room manager has not received final approval from the "higher executives" yet, so they do not know when it will happen.

I also inquired about why they decided to implement a BBJ, and he said they were losing players to the Harrah's casinos so they had to do something to try and bring them back. (I didn't want to say Harrah's was not the competition, that it was Borgata and Trump Taj - I just smiled and said thanks for the update!)

I do not know how much to believe/not believe him, becuase the update came from a floor person, and he spoke to me as if I was buying a used car.

I gave up on it over three years ago, a waste of time IMHO.
