Not wrong, just pointless.

Correct. You are allowed to ask for a deck change. There is no point to ask for a deck change unless the cards are marked or damaged in some way.

If you still want to ask for it, do so. Just don't do it more than once per hour.

I was playing at a 1/2 NL live game in a local casino-within 15 minutes-I was dealt the same hand 3 times. Jack/6. (not the same suits each time) They play with 2 decks, and an auto shuffler. Would it be wrong to ask for a deck change in that situation?

It almost sounds like a request to change the shuffler would feel more logical, although still pointless.

I guess if you asked the dealer to give the deck a quick riffle shuffle before putting it into the shuffler, you would not really come across as unreasonable. Especially if you followed up your request by addressing the table with a quick explanation along the lines of, "I know it sounds ridiculous, but I swear to God, guys, I was dealt the same exact hand three tome in a row." Then if you followed up with a small tip for the dealer, as you say thanks, no one should complain. And if that would make to feel better then there be it.

Doing a quick shuffle would generally take less time than changing the deck, which means you would be less likely to get complaints that you are slowing down the game. Since time is money, I guess.

...I put a spaded deck through one of them [shufflers]. And believe me, we have dirty shufflers and sticky cards. There was no discernable pattern. I did the same thing with my hand shuffle without a scramble. Same result.

Out of curiosity, what kind of shuffle did you do, to compare results with a machine shuffle? I would guess you performed the standard RRSR, but I still thought I'd ask, to make sure.

[/ QUOTE ] This would be extremely unreasonable and I will not do it, and if you ask my floor they will tell me not to do it.

Agreed on this point. There are procedures put in place and if a place has a shuffler, the procedure will undoubtedly be to either wash or don't wash and insert in shuffler. Dealers are not allowed, generally, to alter the shuffle procedure by adding to or subtracting from what rules are already in place. If they aren't shuffling or washing them before being put into the shuffler, that is 100% of the time going to be the procedure in said room.

OK, point taken. And I don't disagree at all with that point, actually.

I once got the same hand, same suites three times in a row with two different decks.

Re: Deck change please?

Deck changes are stupid if done for any reason other than a marked card(s). People that lose several hands, aren't getting hands, don't feel lucky, etc. and ask for deck changes are dbags and just slowing up the game.

Re: Deck change please?

You know it's pointless, I know it's pointless, but they don't, and to them its not.

If they 'think' a deck change will change their luck, then it will probably help their attitude, hence their play might improve a bit (relative to themselves).

Plus, if a deck change slows the game down, a few hands will be missed, thereby slowing down the losses of the average losing player.

So for them a deck change makes sense, as does a 'move into the hot seat' and over-tipping their 'lucky' dealer.

So when you try to convince some poor losing fish that a deck change is pointless, you are wrong.
