Time magazine article

I read the above article a few years ago and found it quite interesting. Seems that most of the Native Americans get shafted on the casino deals, while a few (along with their backers) make out like bandits.

That article is 5 years old. Some of the tribes that I am familiar with have increased their payouts per member 10 fold since that time. Certainly, though, most tribes do not have casinos and there is no inter-tribal revenue sharing for the most part (this is actually a thorny inter-tribal political issue).

I hope you guys are joking about getting on the tribal roll. Some of the comments in this thread are not appropriate.

This may sound like a joke, but when nyt published a story about tribe behind foxwoods, most of the major players were very dilute native american.

I am told conflicting stories in this subject. Some people are convinced that the tribes are keeping all of the money tax free.

The other story is that big companies actually own some of these casinos, hiding behind the Native American guise, and many of the Natives are kept poor

Did someone say appropriate? What does that word mean?

I've always wondered why the richer people in America (with bank accounts and investments) don't help out the other people. I think I read somewhere that teh poorest areas of the USA are places where people don't have any money.

Why would they help them out? The Cherokee nation is a sovereign nation. Why would they give a crap about some other sovereign nation in Montana?

I've always thought it was funny that the Indians are now selling firewater to Pale Face

Well the corporations behind the casinos are represented by members of the Sueyou tribe. Personally, I am just happy they are not giving money to Albert Belle or the rake would be higher.
