LOL. Funny stuff. That said, not many people can brag about a par on their first nine holes, so nice job.

76 @ Bear Mountain yesterday from the tips. Incl a double on the first hole. Was having an amazing week, and then the morning of my round, I get a wicked hang-nail on my right ring finger (pretty bad spot for someone who overlaps)...really took me awhile to adjust to it and I couldn't really 'go after' my shots...was so annoyed.

But, +4 is still pretty decent. So, I had fun.

Using the putter out of the bunker is an underrated play. After lining two sand wedges into a 12 inch lip on #7 on Saturday, I grabbed the putter, took a mighty wack and got it right out of there. Good loft on those Odysseys.

Shot 39 on Sunday (par 35). Actually played 15 holes, nothing worse than a bogey, one birdie.

Since I didn't get back into golf until last summer, and I'm leaving here for ontario (for 5yrs+) this august, I only have a full pass @ Cedar Hill...but I play at least twice a month at other courses (Olympic View, Colwood, Cordova, Bear Mountain, etc). I have a pass for the Island View range though, so I go there 3-4 times/week and golf 2-4 times.

If I were here longer, I'd probably be a member at Gorge Vale...or Colwood.

2 man scramble, shot 69 - five birdies, two bogeys one of which was really dumb. We had a lot of birdie putts inside 15 feet, but not very many of them went in.

Winning score was 67.

Played my 2nd real round of golf today. My first round was on a flat course with only 3 hazards you have to worry about. Shot a 101 on that course which I was very impressed by, considering it was my first time.

The one I played today had hills everywhere and woods/hazards that punished any mistakes. It really put me in my place, lol. I shot about 130 with about 20 penalty strokes. Between 3 people we had over 20 lost balls (about 12 were mine) which I found tilts me more than anything. It was also the first time I had to hit off an uneven lie. The only good thing was my putting on the front, which quickly went to crap after I got pissed. I'm not giving up that easy, I'm ready to go back tomorrow. Awesome winter rates and its still nice besides the wind. .

sick brag, imo. Tanglewood's a nice course too.

Shot (use of 'shot' intentional) 86 yesterday. Not good, but not terrible considering it warmed up to maybe 44 degrees by the end of the round. First time I've broken out the winter gloves.

Probably going back out today, gotta squeeze in the rounds before the snow flies.

Today: Hit the ball great. Hit 11/13 fairways (one of the misses was about 2 inches into the rough, the other one ran through the fairway on #18 by about five yards and ended up with tree affecting my backswing).

Hit 13/18 greens in regulation (four of the misses were by two paces or less, easy chips, the fifth was 100 yards short due to punchout from tee shot above).

What did I shoot?

83. Eighty [censored] three. Good thing it's the end of the season, or there would be putter and wedge components strewn all over the course parking lot.

Re: What\'d You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

this sounds kind of like my round:

get out in 40 (+5) after missing 5 putts on the front inside 6 feet.

on the 10th, I hit a huge drive and am giving my partner a hard time after outdriving him by about 60 and after he hits an ugly thin wedge that settles in the back fringe (front pin). As I am laughing he bets me $10 that I won't hit the wide open green from 70 out and I oblige him by hitting a lob wedge 20 yards long. The exact thing happens on 15, except I am only 50 yards out. same bet, I hit an ugly chip about 35 feet short of the hole but safely on the green, ship ship (and proceed to 3 putt of course). i didn't bother to keep a score on the back after hitting countless balls in the leaf strewn fairway/rough that were clearly well struck but completely unfindable.

on the plus side, we won our match 8 and 6 and were dormie on the 10th. this is getting ugly and i think that we will need to renegotiate terms next year.

Playing in a match play tournament at my club. Won Saturday and Sunday. Both matches much closer than expected. In the quarterfinals next weekend. In today's match, I wasn't up all day and won 16 and 17 to close it out.

Would have loved it to be a stroke play match since this guy couldn't get out of bunker if his life depended on it.

Ottawa Park Golf Course is a short, storied course in Toledo, Ohio. It was designed by Sylvanus P. Jermain, the co-founder and first president of Inverness Club. The inaugural Amateur Public Links championship was held there in 1922. It is said to be the first public course west of New York.

It is a par-71 that plays 5079 yards through the trees and rolling hills. Seven of its par-4s play less than 300 yards. Two of the par-3s are listed under 100 yards. It is short, but you had better have a short game if you are going to play it.

I shot 3 under par 68 today. Six birdies, one bogey and one double. From the sixth hole I went birdie-birdie-par-par-birdie-birdie-birdie and then left a birdie on the 15th hole in the jaws about an inch short. Of course I drove it in the trees on 16 made my double there. I finished par-par including a nice up and down from the back bunker on 18. 24 putts. YAHOO! First time I have ever broke par at Ottawa Park. (Though I must admit I was thinking 29 on the back at one point.)

I think the word you're looking for is 'standard'.

Um, yeah, standard. Make that a bunch of 3 putts, zero birdies, zero-for-4 on up and downs (thanks in part to putter), a 3 putt double bogey from 100 yards. What is that, 42 putts? 43? Aaaargh.

It's just strange. Our greens are rolling *beautifully* - the poa annua dies out in October and the greens are just perfect until they close the course. You sometimes have to move leaves and stuff out of the way, no big deal. I couldn't get any of my lag putts close - mostly too hard - and a bunch of short putts came up a revolution or two short dead center.

It's 60 degrees today, I kinda want to ditch work this afternoon and get in one more round.

I played yesterday at Sherrill Park in Richardson, TX. Course #1 from the tips. After 3-putting the first three holes and hitting two in the water I sort of remembered how to play and SHOT even for the last 15 holes in a 25-35mph gusty, cold north wind. I was pretty happy. 439 yard par 4 8th with the markers up probably 20 yards, I hit my drive 24 steps from the front edge of the green. 515 yard par 5 11th, I hit driver, 3wood, 9iron, and made the 8-foot birdie putt.

TripleH, Ottawa Park sounds like a lot of fun. It's not anywhere near me, but I took a look at the scorecard anyway. What do you usually do on the <300 yard par 4s? Hit driver and try to get it close to the green? Or lay up to a distance you like, i.e., 90 yards?

That is a really bizarre course. 5000 yards, par 71? Almost every par-4 is under 300 yards, the longest topping out at like 324. Plus it says it was designed by Arthur Hills, which is interesting. This course would have be narrow as hell to compensate for the lack of length. Indeed it was no doubt designed back in the days of the mashie niblick and stymies and balls with feathers sticking out of them.

Arthur hills did a redesign, which really involved repairing bunkers, etc. The bunkers are well placed and greens play with a lot of break, both evident and subtle. One of those places where local knowledge rules. There is a match play event there every summer.

Three of the seven short par-4s are reachable without much risk. Three are nearly impossible to hit because the fairway turns or elevation changes abruptly. Some examples:

2) 266 yards with deep bunker fronting a shallow green. About 40 feet downhill with OB fence behind the green. Plays into the prevailing wind. I usually hit an easy driver and go for the up and down.

3) 281 yards flat for 200 yards, then straight back up the hill. Woods down the left. I hit 4-iron.

6) 292 yards through a tunnel of trees with branches overhanging the fairway. The perfect tee shot is 210-yards down the left center.

8) 316 yards. Woods down the left, trees on the right. Fairway slopes right-to-left. Driver almost certainly runs into the woods.

9) 274 yards downhill. Let 'er rip.

etc.

This is the course everyone in town laughs about, but struggles with the course management required to shoot a good score. The greens are smaller so you need to be able to hit a soft flop shot and putt. The best parts of my game.

Had the 2nd tee time today at 8:08. There was a 5 minute frost delay (enough to send the 8:00 sucker group home).

Played a 2:40 minute 18 hole round.

Hadn't swung a club since October and had a hard time making contact first few holes. 53.

Came back with a 44 on the back 9 for a 97.

This might have been my most enjoyable round all year not having to wait for a bunch of slow fat [censored] driving around in their [censored] carts.

77. I thought we were only going to play nine, and I was pleased to shoot a score (37) lower than the temperature (39) on the front. Especially considering that I was wearing enough layers to prevent getting the club back more than shoulder height.

Hey, maybe I should do that more often. Duh.

Only one three putt today (it was a stupid one, from inside 15 feet), two birdies. Good way to end the season if this is it.

46-49=95 at the University of Maryland (~6300 yards) on Wednesday, featuring a spectacular quad-triple finish. Inconsistency is driving me nuts. I feel like I should easily be breaking 90 nearly every time out, but I always manage to blow up on one or two holes. On 17 -- a 315 yard par 4 -- I hit my best drive of the day to like 70 yards out, then somehow hit my wedge like 75 degrees right. Lost my concentration and muffed a couple chips from there, and then made a terrible pitch and three putt on the long 18th hole.

I knew there was a reason I gave up this game.
