So yes, the game was very fun. The day started out [censored] because I got 5-6 hours of sleep and I don't really function on less than 7. But obviously I dragged my ass outta bed since I wasn't going to waste my over-priced tickets.
The game was at 1, but we left at 10 because we had to go into Manhattan for OH to get a passport. Obviously we just looked online and found the place that was most convenient on the way to the stadium, so off we go to some Post Office on 125th St. Now OH had told me how uptown is much nicer than the parts of Manhattan we'd driven through before, so I was kinda surprised when we parked next to a run down Post Office in the middle of Harlem. All I can say is that you know you're in the wrong part of town when you see adds like this: http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/3441/gunkc8.jpg So anyways the passport stuff was brutal since they only had one window open and all the workers at this place were less than competent. The crazy people there did provide some entertainment however. My favorite was the old lady who walked around the place banging her cane on everything and complaining about how she couldn't get any service. Good times. So after 1.5 hours of waiting and $200 for expedited processing we leave that [censored] hole. Now it's already a little after 1 because the drive from NJ took longer than it should have as did the PO. We get to the stadium area and are directed by some dudes in vests to a parking lot. We pay $20 to get in and the guy offers to valet it if we "take care of him." So whatever. We leave the car and head to the stadium. We did park less than a 5 minute walk away, but on our way we realize that we got ripped off as there was valet parking right in front of the stadium available for $28. Unlike Citizen's Bank Park in Philly, the guys directing traffic didn't actually work for the stadium, but for the lot we just parked at. Oh well. It's the price of being a stupid tourist I guess. We get into the stadium and I'm shocked at how much of a [censored] hole it is. The only other parks I've been to are Citizen's Bank and the Sky Dome, and they are both 100 times nicer than Yankee Stadium. The concourse area was just a small concrete walkway lined with food carts, and everything was pretty dirty. We finally get to our seats in between the 2nd and 3rd inning. Although the inside of the place sucked, the field itself was very nice. http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/9...eefieldjr3.jpg Bad news is the Jays were down 2-0. Obviously we just sat around and enjoyed the rest of the game. Got some beer, Cracker Jacks, delicious hot dogs. The Jays did suck this game. For a while all they were hitting were weak grounders. Eventually Vernon Wells got the Jays first hit in the form of a double off the wall the right-center, but nothing came of it. They also made a couple of throwing errors which made me want to strangle a kitten; one from the shortstop throwing the ball into the dirt in front of first, and the other from the pitcher throwing the ball away on a pick-off attempt. Fortunately the Yankees weren't able to score off of either of those errors, so it was still 2-0 going into the 7th. Before the inning started I actually sort of got on the jumbotron, meaning that the family sitting directly in front of us was featured, and you could see me in the background. After those 2 seconds were over I was immediately disappointed by my lack of quick thinking as I missed a golden opportunity to give the crooked finger to the entire stadium. [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] To lead off the 7th inning Matt Stairs (dude who hit the grand slam when we were in Philly) hit a nice double into left-center. Wells follows up with an infield single. Troy Glaus then comes up and flies out, but moves both runners up. Next is that big [censored] Frank Thomas who grounds out but scores Stairs from third and advances Wells. After a lengthy mound conference which required the entire infield for some reason, http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/1...glefuckjg6.jpg the Yankees decide to leave their starter in and good old Aaron Hill comes up and knocks out a triple. Wohoo, Jays tie it up. Next up is the Jays elderly catcher, Gregg Zaun. He grounds into center and Hill comes home to take the lead. Shippit. The inning ends and it goes scoreless into the bottom of the 9th. I must say that the best thing about that stadium was the crowd. Even though they were all dirty Yankees fans, it was pretty fun being in a crowd that got so worked up and was cheering in unison between each pitch hoping to rally their team to a victory in the bottom of the 9th. Obviously the Yankees suck and it didn't work, but I applaud the enthusiasm. We walked out to our parking lot where there was a large line-up of people waiting to have their car pulled up for them. Being the ballers that we are, OH tipped one of the guys and he took us right in and brought our car out the side exit. So I just got home from surgery this afternoon. I have recurring nasal polyps, which are basically little tumors that grow inside the nose but aren't dangerous at all. They just restrict breathing if they get big enough. Showed up at the hospital at 11:30, was on the operating table at 12:45. I was perfectly fine the whole time until I was lying on the table and they started attaching monitors and ivs, then I got very very nervous. Last thing I remember is the anaesthethiologist saying "I'm going to give you some medicine that'll make you feel like you just had a couple of margaritas." Next thing I know it's 2:10 and I'm being wheeled into the recovery room.
After being awake for a couple minutes I started shivering really bad and they had to get this blanket thing that they pump warm air through. After about 30 min the shivering was gone. Other than that everything went great. Right away I could breathe through my nose normally. I stayed there for a couple hours taking a few pills and drinking water. Just after 4 they took me into another room and took the iv out and let me get dressed. I felt very weak and walking was kinda difficult. So, now I'm back home eating a bagel and wiping drops of blood from my nose. Good times. |

Some belated trip report updates:
There are a bunch of things we did since the last TR including... <ul type="square">Going to Seaside Zero's surgery Meeting Zurv and the family Going to Toronto[/list]It's a long post that we kept wanting to make, but never did. Zero enjoys writing much more than I do. We've both been super busy and haven't had much time to get the photos together for an update. I got hold of her camera and decided to give it a go. <u>Seaside Heights</u> http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i2...J/IMG_0508.jpg At the end of July, we took a ride down to seaside while still in NJ. We did most of the standard boardwalk/beach/amusement park stuff that people do. Hitting up the arcade was first on the list, but that got a little boring after a few minutes. It's pretty sad to see old ladies sitting addicted to the slot machines (that only pay tickets for prizes) at places like this. We were there for about only 30-45 minutes, and the most noteworthy highlights were the western game, skeeball, and whack-a-mole. The western game is a life-sized saloon and outside area with targets (I'm sure most of you have seen these games) and it's pretty cool if you like shooting. Zero is one hell of a shot. I didn't play the game, but I'm pretty sure that zero had to hit every single target at least once before we were allowed to move on. [img]/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img] However, I do remember owning at both skeeball and whack-a-mole though. After leaving the arcade, we stopped for some food and headed across to the rides that were about 15 minutes down the boardwalk. We felt soooo bad for whomever was working under that suit. We had the chance to get on two rides before realizing that we were there almost 3 hours and had to head back to the car before the meter expired. On the way to the rides and back, we hit up some of those scammy games and completely destroyed the system for lots of prizes. We're both +EV at carnival games. Seaside was probably happy to see us leave. Although not dressed for the beach, we wanted to go onto the one between piers at Seaside. It was overcrowded and overpriced, so we decided against it. Spontaneously, we went to Long Branch (a small beach farther up the NJ coast) after leaving Seaside Heights. Nothing too eventful happened while we were there except for my ghey-looking, rolled-up-to-stay-dry jean shorts. [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img] http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i2...J/IMG_0519.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i2...J/IMG_0524.jpg <u>Zero's Surgery</u> As zero mentioned in an earlier post, the day surgery was an overall success. I dropped her off at the hospital at around 11am and she was ready to go home by 4pm. Unfortunately, the hospital had some sort of dicky policy about only immediate family being able to stay with the day surgery patients. They told me I had to go home and then pick her up from some ramp on the ground floor when it was over and they called me. I gave them a bit of a hard time, and all I was able to accomplish was the ability to meet her outside of the recovery room immediately afterwards. We have no bloody nose pics, sorry. Zero was fine the next day, and we jumped in the car the next day to leave Kingston for Toronto. On the way... <u>Meeting Zurvan and his Family</u> Toronto is where zero's originally from. We planned to go to see her parents after surgery. Zurvan lives about 20-30 minutes east of Toronto. We made arrangements ahead of time to stop by and say hello. Here's a shot I snapped of Zurv, his wife, Tikababy (actual names withheld), zero and Zurv/Tika's precious little Mia. Mia liked to stare at me. Zurv is different than you would imagine from his online persona, although I'm not sure how. He didn't seem as shy as he originally said he would be (maybe because we had spent so much time talking on AIM the preceeding months). Tika was more outgoing. She seemed like the type to drag Zurv out to parties and get-togethers that he didn't really want to attend. [img]/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img] We had originally planned to have dinner with Zurv and Tika, but zero's parents wanted us to their house for dinner the first night (I hadn't met them yet at this point) and they didn't tell us until that day. Either way, we had a good time and would definitely go back to visit again. KM, once again we've had the chance to meet other poggers to test their existence. No matter what you think, they are actual people. WE'RE NOT BOTS! K? [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img] <u>Toronto & Meeting The Parents</u> Ahhhh...the moment of truth. Here's what I expected: http://www.dreamworksfansite.com/mee...e_Detector.jpg It wasn't that bad. Actually, it wasn't bad at all. Zero's parents were pretty hospitable. Her father definitely liked me more than her mom (her mom didn't dislike me though). We spent the first day at their house having dinner with them and zero's brother. After dinner, we took a ride with zero's brother and hung out for a bit while he washed his car at their house. When he left, zero and I took a walk on Bloor St. West in Bloor Village, zero's old neighborhood. We stayed at the parents' house in Toronto for 5 days total. The visit was pretty eventful. Aside from immediate family, I had the chance to meet a bunch of extended family (two aunts, some cousins, a cousin's new baby) as well as her brother's roommate and girlfriend, and about 10-12 of zero's friends from downtown Toronto and the surrounding areas. While there, we had the chance to see the CN Tower (tallest building in the world, I believe). I'm afraid of heights, but was able to gather enough courage to stand on two blocks of it. I remember zero calling me a pussy as she was standing on the whole thing at the other end. Even little kids were running and jumping around on that thing. Whatever. We played pool at this pretty nice pool hall and afterwards, went to a crappy bar across the street that did last call at 12:40 and threw us out before 1am. The next night, zero and I went to Yuck Yuck's Comedy Club. None of her friends were able to make it, so we went solo. Now, we're back in Kingston after moving my things out of NJ (see the other thread for that) and visiting the parentals a 2nd time. Classes started again for zero. Poker started again for OH. We're back around, and our internet time allowance is slowly returning to (what used to be) (ab)normal. |
