in 83 games last year WMP was .300/.350/.490

Adam Dunn was .230/.365/.490 and is a very valuable player this year. he's also a couple years older than wmp.

edit: this year Dunn is .263/.365/.554. if wmp could come reasonable close to that, he's a valuable guy to have around.

i'll give every male in your family a bj if WMP ever walks as much as adam dunn

as far as pena last year, his avg on balls in play was .411, which is almost necessary for you to be successfull when you don't put the ball in play often enough and never draw walks. only problem is, its entirely unrealistic to expect.

i went through all this in the offseason when i hoped they would trade him while he had value, i think in a jd drew thread or something. it really isnt suprising.

i would love to see pena stick around boston just so i don't have to listen to guys like toro bitch and moan about theo dealing him for peanuts and him hitting 40 HR two years from now.

You got me pegged all wrong. I realize the kid has potential but he's a bad fit in Boston. If he does well in the future it won't bother me one iota.

laroche for pena and lester would be an absolutely retarded deal for la (altho it doesnt strike me as totally unrealistic..)

if pena ever goes sammy sosa on the league it'll be after he's signed his first free agent contract. right now all the sox have in him is 1.3 seasons of a below average corner outfielder

Yeah, right handed power hitters traditionally do suck in Boston.

(Well, a 40-year old Gary Gaetti did, anyway...)

That's not what I'm talking about when I say he's a bad fit and I think you know it. WMP needs time to get at bats and develope with a team that's not contending because he needs a lot of work before he realizes that potential.

It just amazes me that WMP has never been able to play everyday for a major league team. The closest he's ever come has been when he played like half the 2004 season for the Reds when Griffey got hurt. He's never had more than 336 ABs in a season - and he hit 26 HRs that year.

BTW, awesome ABs by him and Coco with no outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd vs Cliff Lee tonight. Those 2 ABs will probably get lost in the shuffle if they win big tonight, but just dreadful.

Also, Schill had a sick start in Pawtucket tonight:

8 IP, 66 pitches, 44 strikes, O ER, 8 K, 2 H, 0 BB

started by retiring the first 14 he faced, too.

Tito tried to do something a lot of managers do, leaving a guy in after he's lost it so he can finish the 5th inning and get the win.

He just hit a run in and Tito has no choice, he's out.
