BTW, why is Lo Duca playing a day game after a night game? Especially a 12:35 start. Is it because of the off day tomorrow?

I do not see how you can raise a serious complaint about bunting there.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, not even considering that it's a -EV play in general, it's just ridiculous when you've got LoDuca as the runner.

a) He's gonna get thrown out at 2nd 75% of the time.
b) Having LoDuca on 2nd isn't all that great.

c) DAVID BASEBALL JESUS WRIGHT!!!!

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree that he should have pinch run for LoDuca. But bunting there is about as traditional a play as there is.

lol, Rich Aurilia can keep running all the way to the parking lot; that ball is still a center-cut strike...

Good to see Wags with a no-drama 1-2-3.

This is what I love about this being a poker forum. I had the exact same concerns that this post mentioned. Bunting ahead 2-0 with Lo Duca on 1st is stupid in about 5 ways. Any other forum if I post this Id get 300 people replying with [censored] like...

"Willie wins alot of game for us, you never played the game so you don't understand it, look the Mets won in that inning.., you are such a pessimist jerk, etc etc etc"

But you guys actually understand that baseball is mathematical, I love you guys.

Right, giving away out is almost always -EV. In spots where you only need the 1 run I consider it but sure as hell not up 2-0 in the count against a pitcher that is easy to get riled up, and certianly not with a slug at 1st that's god damn near impossible to move over.

and oh yeah what got missed is just how awful that bunt was too by Gotay. Reyes woulda been out at 2nd on that.

Re: ****Official 2007 NY Mets NL East Champs Thread****

Not to mention that leaving the top of the ninth with a tie only gives us less than a 50% chance of winning where 2 runs gives us a much larger chance. But obviously there is no point in arguing something like this since the majority of us obviously agree. Nice win overall, love seeeing Delgado hit the ball hard almost every time up and the big confidence booster from Wright. Hopefully it will be enough so [censored] met fans don't boo him when the mets come home.

Okay....did anyone else watch the SNY feed of this game?

Let me preface this by saying that I'm on percocet right now so I don't know if I heard this right. But in the top of the 7th inning (I think) they showed a shot of a bunch of the Mets standing at the top railing of the dugout and then Gary and Keith start joking about all of their shaved heads.

Then Keith just blurts out, "ACHTUNG!!!!".

Did I hear this right?

Re: ****Official 2007 NY Mets NL East Champs Thread****

Okay, apparently I'm not the only person who heard him say, "Achtung!". Link.

Re: ****Official 2007 NY Mets NL East Champs Thread****

Sorry, "Achtung!" is German for "Attention!". With the Mets and all of their shaved heads I thought Hernandez might have been making a very bad concentration camp type of joke.

Sounds like a Nazi joke.

Re: ****Official 2007 NY Mets NL East Champs Thread****

Either way the joke has to do with Nazi's, which we all have to admit probably isn't PC. I could care less about the actual joke (I actually laughed at it ~ although given my mental state at the time I probably would have laughed at anything), and I'm not surprised Keith Hernandez said something borderline inappropriate on the air. I am surprised that he hasn't gotten any heat over it yet.

...Maybe less people know the meaning of the German word achtung than I thought.

He probably will hear something. It took a day or so for talk to start building up for the women in the dugout comment last year.

Easley for his 4th of this year. Doing a great job at filling in for Valentin. Sosa went 6 2/3 giving up 2 solo shots. I'll take that every single time if Sosa can do it.

I'd rather send down Green, Gotay, Delgado, LoDuca, and Reyes for pulling the worst defensive sequence I've seen in years.

Needle77 05-12-2007 02:32 PM

Re: ****Official 2007 NY Mets NL East Champs Thread****

I don't blame Lo Duca or Delgado. If Reyes just ate Lo Duca's throw it would have been 1st and 3rd 2 outs. Once Reyes lobbed the ball to Delgado the only play was to 2nd. Gotay should not have been fielding that ball, no idea where Green was on that play.

Great at bat by Lo Duca. Gotay needs to get a hit here.

Delgado was at fault on the grounder to 2nd though. I also thought he had a shot at Gwynn coming home after Jose's lob.

Re: ****Official 2007 NY Mets NL East Champs Thread****

It all could have been solved if Green caught it.

And just as I was thinking that Franco batting there would have been better even though it was right v righty I am proved wrong. Maybe that can spark Newhan.

JordanIB 05-12-2007 02:39 PM

Re: ****Official 2007 NY Mets NL East Champs Thread****

Willie's not the type to ditch Newhan just yet.

The bench is short, especially with Valentin out and injuries creeping up with Alou.

We're gonna need Newhan to be a serviceable option in the middle innings.

Needle77 05-12-2007 02:44 PM

Re: ****Official 2007 NY Mets NL East Champs Thread****

Yeah, Newhan is going to have to be a big contributor during the summer months.

I didn't think that they would pinch hit for Sheets especially after a lead off single but considering how he was pitching to finish the 5th I feel like the Mets could get a nice inning here in the 6th. Even against Reyes he was a tad wild just Reyes went back to his free swinging ways.

Yeah, that was a horrid AB from Reyes. I think he was a little too pumped up after the HR.

Re: ****Official 2007 NY Mets NL East Champs Thread****

Met's next time you feel like gift wrapping a game for a team let us know. That way Alou can't get hurt and we don't have to use up our bullpen. Thanks.

wh1t3bread 05-13-2007 12:44 PM

Re: ****Official 2007 NY Mets NL East Champs Thread****

Well the Mike Pelfrey show is officially over...for now. Pelfrey sent down and Gomez called up, Thursday's starter is uncertain.

Calling up Gomez also means that Alou is probably not in good shape at all. Although they have 4 days to figure out who's going to start on Thursday so bringing up another pitcher right now wouldn't make sense anyway.

wh1t3bread 05-13-2007 12:48 PM

Re: ****Official 2007 NY Mets NL East Champs Thread****

Gomez is also in the starting lineup today vs Capuano. Reyes, Easley, Beltran, Wright, Franco, Casto, Chavez, Gomez.

Needle77 05-13-2007 01:07 PM

Re: ****Official 2007 NY Mets NL East Champs Thread****

With Pelfrey going down and no one in AAA showing anything we could have a Kevin Mulvey sighting. He was their 1st pick last year and is out of Nova. I saw him pitch at Nova and he was dominating.

So I guess Thursday looks like Sele, Park, Humber, or Mulvy. I'd lean towards Sele starting though.

Hopefully Gomez can get a spark today. And Easley batting second over Chavez? Anyone else find that odd?

Oh no, Perez is wild to start the game.
