This is amazing news. Sam, there are no Wendy's near me, but I will travel when they roll this out. The choice of sides thing is killer, and I refuse to believe the BBS isn't amazing.

What great news.

hashbrowns are mcdonald's-esque; not tater tots.

Having eaten Wendy's this morning, it occurs to me that I didn't mention that the sausage is by FAR the best fast food sausage I've ever had. Delicious.

Al, IMO the french fry pecking order goes something like McDonalds > Wendy's >>>>>> Burger King/Jack In the Box/etc.

That's about right to me - adjusting for LA, and what I've eaten, fries goes something like:

In-N-Out > McDonald's > Wendy's >> Fatburger >> Tommy's >> BK >>>> JackintheBox

Soul Daddy - hm, maybe you're right I now recall eating soggy or stale fries from Wendy's and cursing them, but when they're good, they're pretty damn good.

From the first page, In-N-Out makes a clear jump to Not quite as good as your 1st born, but better than your 2nd born

You know he's talking specifically about the fries, right?

Wendy's Breakfast TR

Forgot to bring one of the awesome cinnamon muffins I baked last night to work with me today, so hit up a Wendy's near my office to sample the new bfast menu.

Ordered the Big Breakfast sandwich and a hash brown. The BBS comes on a soft roll (the same roll used for the spicy chicken sandwich), with a folded scrambled egg, sausage patty, two slices of bacon, and two slices of cheese. The sausage in the sandwich tastes pretty similar to McDonald's sausage patty...its maybe a little less dense, and possibly a little larger circumference-wise (although a side-by-side comparison will be needed). From top to bottom the sandwich is layered bun-bacon-cheese-egg-sausage-cheese.

Biting into the sandwich, I was pleasantly surprised by the contrast of the mildly spicy sausage, smoky bacon, and cheese. The egg was very light and fluffy, and quite good...certainly the best fast food scrambled egg/omelette type thing I've had. The key to this sandwich is the second slice of cheese...it really elevates this sandwich from "pretty good" to "very good". This sandwich may give the Sausage McMuffin w/ egg a run for its money.

The hash brown was not as good as McDonald's. I think it is a little bigger (its more squarish shaped than rectangular), and it reminded me of one of those toaster hash browns you can buy in the supermarket. The internal texture was different from McD's...not as creamy. I'm assuming this is due to a rougher grate of the potato. In any event, it was pretty good, and certainly better than Burger King's hash browns, but a far step below the McDonald's hash brown, which IMO, is one of the best fast foods ever invented.

In summary, I was rather pleased with this meal, and am excited to see if Wendy's can make a go of this.
