51+51=102

Putting fantistic...made some great 10-20footers....

...chipping and pitching from 20-60 yards was also on fire.....

...still having big trouble of tee...and with 5-7 irons....once that is settled...think can get into 90s consistent...

....hopefully soon

97 @ Bethpage Green.

44 on the front. A horrible 53 on the back when my short game really abandoned me. I did birdie the first hole so for the first time ever in my golfing career I was under par during a round.

I played Stone Tree in Novato and Bodega Harbour in Bodega Bay over the weekend. Was in the 90s both rounds, I think 93-95.

Stone Tree is a nice course. Johnny Miller design, and he hates me...my hdcp is currently 15.6 and I'm pretty sure I've never broken 90 on a course with his name on it.
Off the top of my head:
- Eagle Ridge in Gilroy
- Brighton Crest in Friant [Fresno area]
- Genoa Lakes Resort Course [formerly Sierra Nevada]
- Whitney Oaks in Rocklin
- Entrada in St. George, UT

Shot my third 46 in four rounds at the local course. Set a cool to play a bogey round and then I'd buy the new irons I've been needing for quite awhile. I can't escape the head games my mind always plays on me when I have a shot. Last round it was three putting the 9th from about 18 feet and the round before that it was double-triple on the first two par 4s to not even have a legitimate shot. This time I got to the par 5 6th at only 4 over and proceeded to sky my teeshot OB, top an approach, and two putt from 8 feet for a triple which totally rattled me and caused me to double the 7th as well.

Such a frusturating game especially when you suck.

Yuck. Go back and play in November.

That place is a "yardage trap"...I'm a short hitter, but would still rather play a little longer course than 5800. However, I've only played the whites the two times I've played there because it's like every miss with a club other than a putter is an extra two shots. I dunno.

Third-hand (now fourth, I guess) story: We played with a guy last year who said he was chatting with someone in the pro shop who claimed John Daly came out to play and drove the green on 14 from the tips. I would like to have seen that shot in person...

42 for 9. Poor driving cost me several shots. Actually felt like the short game was on for a change, except for a bunker on the last hole that cost me a triple.

Re: What\'d You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

85 on the Desert course at Primm on Monday. I drove pretty well all day except for spraying 2 tee shots severely right.

The first one went into a waste area on 14 and I took my medicine with a drop and a double bogey.

The 2nd one was equally bad on the par 4 17th but it went so far right I ended up with a blind, but straight, 170 yard shot from the 10th fairway. I hit it straight but to the right side of the green. Since the shot was blind I immediately ran up after the ball as soon as I hit it to try to see where it would end up. I didn't see it land but my first view of the ball was after a severe and very lucky kick to the left off the side of a hill on the right side of the green. By the time I saw the ball it was slowly rolling closer and closer to the pin and I drained a 5 footer for birdie. I deserved a bogey, but luck can't always be bad.

For an August afternoon in the Mojave it was a nice sub 100 degree afternoon - pretty windy but not impossible.

Shot a 47 on a 36 two days ago. I scrambled great, got up and down a couple of times, but my long irons and anything off the tee was pretty much horrible.

Could have been much worse, considering I hadn't even picked up clubs in almost 3 months.

This from yesterday, but played a Beat the Pro with the ladies club at my sister course and shot 66, walking in the Southern California heat, par 71 and dropping back a group after each 3 hole stretch to play with all the groups. One woman tied me net no one beat me. Probably gonna shoot 80 next time I play, I was in New York for the last week without clubs, fitness center, etc. so no practice of any kind for like 10 days.

I'm going to play Whitehawk Ranch tomorrow. It's at altitude, so hopefully this won't be too much of a problem:

Rating/Slope
------------
TEE________MEN_____WOMEN__YARDAGE
Four Hawk__72.6/133 _________6927
Three Hawk_70.3/123 74.6/141_6457
Two Hawk___66.5/115 70.6/132_5673
One Hawk___62.9/105 65.4/122_4816

It did remind me of the "white tees" thread, though, as I'll give Three Hawks a shot. 66.5/115 seems pretty neutered (although it's not like I'd shoot even par or anything).

Played Member-Guest with my dad at Fairvue Plantation in Gallatin, TN.

Brag: best ball - shot 82 on Thursday (I was rated an 18 for this tourney as I don't have official HC); our team netted out to 61, which put us in second place after round 1; after the scrambled drive round 2 on Friday (net 67), we were 3 shots back in third

Beat: best ball - shot 103 on Saturday's final round 3; our team netted out to 73; finished 5th

Variance: see brag and beat above; 2 birds in a row on Thursday (net eagles); carded a triple on Friday on a par 3 (scrambled drive!), followed by a net eagle on a par 4

Paiute Wolf 36 today. Nothing really working well, had to scramble almost all day.

55-58-113
52-59-111

Second round I cost myself 6 shots jacking around trying to hit driver which I never do. Irritating. A far cry from my 51-50 here a few weeks ago where my ball striking was real good for me all day.

played local public course yesterday. 71.2/132 3,036 on the front which is what i played since i started at 530pm. par 36, shot -2 34. sooooooo happy, first under par round of the summer. made 4 birdies and 2 bogeys. lost a ball in a lateral hazard but managed to get on and 2putt for bogey. putter was on fire, 13 putts for the 9. every putt that didn't go in was within 3 ft. those rounds really are what keep ppl comnig back

88. Worst ballstriking round all year by far and nothing I did seemed to help. Hit exactly 4 greens in regulation, 1 on the back nine. If I hadn't had six one putt greens on the back it would have been VERY ugly.

At least two of the four greens I hit were par 3s and I won a few bucks for being closest to the pin.

Played Pebble Creek in NJ on Friday. Really enjoyed the course, although I think I could have made a couple better decisions if it hadn't been my first time there.

Birdied the toughest hole on the course (#8-par 5) and shot a 41 on the front. Not talking about the back.

Putted real well today with 35 putts that could've even been like 32 or 31. Also went to the range early to try and implement some advice I had gotten into my swing. Despite trying to change my swing, I did reasonably well today and was happy with how things went. I'd guess it'll take several more rounds to get fully comfortable with the adjustments (more weight on right foot, less upper body movement).

Playing really well lately, had a medal competition, got there late(ish) so didnt have enough time to warm up.
Started pretty bad, bogied first 3 holes, but then played well, was 4 over on the 17th tee. 3 putted on 17 and bogied the last, so was a bit dissapointed.

lost on countback, sucks.

my handicap was 12.2, par is 70 and standard scratch was 69.

what will my handicap get cut too?

I honestly don't believe that anybody reads anyone else's posts in this thread but whatever. Finally conquered my nemesis, Sunridge Canyon near Scottsdale. Shot a 2-under 33 on the back nine, two birdies and seven effortless pars and could have actually been a lot lower. 73 for the round.

Best part was, we got a comp and we took $20 from the other guys, winning a net of four ways overall in our $5 Nassau. Free golf + winning money + good round = good time.

EDIT: main reason for this post is that I've been a 1-3 HDCP for the past few years but have never broken 80 in like 15 tries on this course. It's harder than hell (72.6/142 from the back tees, which is where we played from today). Only used my driver once - mauled a drive on 16 which helped me get home in two on the par 5.

Just to prove you wrong , if you drive the ball into the desert area on this course is it unplayable? Is this a stroke and distance situation every time? So for instance, on 16 when you go for a drive are you risking a big number should your swing go badly awry?

I have never played desert golf before unless you count Vegas.

The desert courses I've played generally treat the desert as a lateral hazard.

Triple,

OK you proved me wrong...

Generally as oT said, we treat it as a hazard. A couple of times on the front nine I hit balls into the desert, and just dropped a ball where it crossed over. It's generally a local rule that most courses put on the scorecard to keep play moving - if everyone really played stroke + distance on desert courses there would be six hour rounds.

This rule has the potential to get tricky when you hit it into the desert but close to someone's house, because we definitely enforce stroke + distance on shots hit OB. Luckily this doesn't happen very often.

So do you look for the ball and consider playing it from the hazard? Or are you generally better off just taking a drop? Or are there little creatures in the scrub that will send you to the ER like recluse spiders, rattlesnakes and box jellyfish(that have adapted to land, of course)?

Oh no, we definitely look. I have a pretty good eye for watching the ball into the sh*t. The chances of finding your ball depends on the nature of the desert. Some courses have a lot of semi-manicured, more barren desert areas, some are completely untamed. I'd say you will find a playable shot about 25% of the time, but a higher percentage you will find it, but it won't be playable.

Remarkably, for all the desert golf I've played and all the desert floors I've stomped around on, I've only ever seen one rattlesnake, and that one was actually on a teebox. I think I've just been really lucky.

Wow. What is the club drop there? I'm thinking hit it about 140? I've never played with a tee that elevated.

I keep laughing at these courses. I was talking to a guy on Saturday who was starting to be driven insane about the "target golf" around here (Northeastern PA). He was a 7 and now is playing to a 10-11 because he has all kinds of problems with the small greens and tight doglegs. I have no idea how I would handle a wide open 7200 yard course.

The Nationwide tour came through town this week. Northeast PA Classic

Slight Brag: I shot a 90 here on the media day.

Beat: was 6 over when I came to the 14th and snap hooked back to back drivers into the woods. took a 10. Then alternated par bogey in and three putted from 4 feet on 18 for bogey.

It's also at elevation (> 5000') so I think the right distance was about 160. I'm a pretty short hitter, so would take a 5I into a 170 yd hole at sea level and expect to be below the hole. Here, I hit a 5I and it went way over. I would have felt like an idiot teeing up a 6I from outside of 200 yds, but that was probably the right club for me.
