Nice pics.

I swear, every time I feel like abandoning this thread, someone comes along and says something like that. Gives me fuel for another month.

Hey Loungers, the expectants are dwindling. Any suggestions on getting more names on this list?

Well, aside from the obvious.

Re: Post if your wife is pregnant

Trip report (my first - be gentle!):

Background - we had a pseudo scary moment or two 5 weeks ago (6 weeks before due date) when ultrasound estimates put him at 8 lbs - projecting him at about 11 pounds at 40 weeks. Dr. ultimately felt he wasn't nearly that large, plus did multiple tests for gestational diabetes (big babies are often caused by this) that all came up negative. We were relieved and felt things were OK and that maybe the ultrasound was a fluke, and put it out of our minds...

Fast forward to last week - 1 week before he's due. We go to the OBGYN for the weekly visit - wife has been getting uncomfortably large - she's 5' 3". So they decided the week prior to do one more ultrasound just to check things out.

Ultrasound doctor expert starts her thing and is clearly immediately surprised at how large he is. His head and stomach literally max out the machine (error messages / red flashing - good times). Uh oh. They capture various measurements into the machine... and it spits out 11 lbs 9 oz as an estimate plus / minus 33 oz. I'm partially scared, and partially feel like I caught a prize winning fish.

Doctor calls someone else in to look at the measurements and confirm things are correct - this doctor is also shaking her head smiling and joking about our big boy. Both immediately ask about gestational diabetes, we confirm negative findings so far. Neither is our OBGYN - we have the appointment with her next - but the 2nd doctor mentions that a vaginal delivery might be difficult. No kidding...

I'm amused by the whole thing, but at the same time can tell my wife is quietly freaking out. So, thinking I'm being helpful, I ask something like "well, you do so many deliveries here (this is the major children's hospital in Houston BTW) - what are the largest babies you've seen doing this?" Both doctors say "yours is it". Nice move me.

So we're waiting what should be 10 minutes for the appt with the OBGYN. We end up waiting 90 minutes, which only rachets up the tension for my wife. She's freaking out because she does not relish the idea of pushing out a toddler. I'm reassuring her that there's no way they'd let her do this... and she's thinking that 11 lbs 9 oz could be the low end - the margin for error could put him at 14 pounds. And of course, we really don't want a freakishly large baby. We start imagining ourselves on the evening news (we don't want this). She's a worst case scenario type...

Doctor arrives, and after some dancing around - she must have thought we were sold on a vaginal delivery, so it took a while for everyone to get to the obvious conclusion - we scheduled a c-section for 5/21, 7:30 AM.

Weekend goes by, we imagine having a 14 pounder, try to stay relaxed, hoping all goes well...

So today we get up at 4:30 AM, get to the hospital at 6:00, surgery starts at 7:30. Everything works out absurdly well, and out comes our little boy, 10 lbs 9 oz, 21 1/2 ". His blood sugars are perfectly normal (eliminating doubt about the gestational diabetes). He's just a big, solid little thing - and he was awake and alert for much of the day! I've seen my baby pix (I was, ahem, not cute) - luckily he's a seriously cute looking little thing...

So today has been a whirlwind - and now I have a little boy. I'm still stunned by how normal yet extraordinary today has been - life is great!

Thanks to dcasper for pointing me to this thread...

EDIT: brag - I think I've won the heavyweight award, no?!

My wife and I are expecting our first child, a daughter, Audrey Ruth on July 2.

My two best men from my wedding had babies recently, one had triplets (no fert drugs!), and the other had a baby girl who weighed in at 11 lb, 6 oz (just 4 oz less than the 3 triplets combined), so we are hoping for a nice normal 8 lb girl LOL. Congrats to everyone else, and this thread has made me shed tears of joy as well as of heartache for those who had problems along the way. My wife and I lost our first, but very quickly in, and we caught again the next month, so hang in there.

Alright, here is my info:

First Child
Didn't really try specifically, just stopped using Birth Control about 6 months ago.
I am 30, she is 28 (If that matters)
No idea of the Due Date, but it's probably something around 8 months from now.

No real preference on Baby Sex, and no names picked out.

Due 11/07 (not sure the day)
Our 2nd
Hoping for a girl, we have a boy, then we can stop.

If we have a girl (my choices): 1. Zoe, 2. Kaylee (I [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Firefly)

If we have a boy, I'm going to mostly defer choices to my wife (unless she picks names that'll get him punched in the nose). I picked our 1st son's name, Elliott.

Just wanted to give a quick update - the official due date was yesterday 6/3 but our little girl is in no hurry to make her appearance. After consulting with the doctor at her last appointment, we are scheduled to go to the hospital Tuesday night to begin the induction procedures. Looks like we'll have the baby on Wednesday.

Re: Post if your wife is pregnant

Finally have a few minutes to post an update and TR. I have to say that everything went quite normally and there were no major issues at the hospital. We arrived at 5:00 pm on Tuesday evening to check in and start the induction procedures. Shortly after we got checked into the first room the doctor performed an exam and inserted a pill called Cytotec (sp?) that is supposed to make the cervix soften and start to dialate. When we arrived my wife was not quite dialated to 1 cm, but after about 5 hours the doctor checked again and she had dialated through to 1 cm and the was making good progress. She was showing mild contractions through the night but none that she could really feel.

In the morning her doctor came around to do another exam and she had dialated to 2 cm and was about 90% effaced. The doctor was pleased with her progress, so they moved us into another room for labor and delivery, and hooked up the pitocin to her IV. This was about 8:00 am. They also gave her some pain medication because she was feeling some contractions, and it put her right to sleep which was a good thing. At 10:30 she was dialated to 5 cm and 100% effaced. Around 12:00 pm the contractions and labor pains were getting pretty bad, so she got an epidural. By 1:00 pm her water had broken on its own, and she was fully dialated to 9 cm so it was time to start pushing.

Around 1:30 the doctor had my wife start doing some "practice pushes" to get the feel of how to push the baby. It was slow progress because the epidural prevented my wife from feeling what was going on so she had trouble pushing correctly. The baby made some slow progress down but she wasn't getting through very well. The only small concern we had during the whole labor pre-delivery period was that the baby's heart rate would drop down while my wife was pushing, but it came right back after she stopped pushing.

After a couple hours on and off of pushing, the doctor was concerned that the baby was getting stressed from the heart rate variations, and my wife was getting pretty exhausted. The doctor said she was ready to do the c-section and we agreed. Once the decision was made things started moving quickly. They wheeled my wife off to the OR, I got dressed in my suit and waited for them to come get me. I was brought into the OR right when they were starting to make the incision, and I watched the whole procedure. It was quite fascinating. The doctor was a small lady about 5' tall so she had to stand on a stool to get high enough to reach in and pull out the baby.

I remember when the moment they took out my daughter I thought to myself "so that's what she looks like finally". I was awe struck at that moment at the whole process. I watched the pediatrician clean her up and I got to cut the cord. Then I carried her over to show my wife our new daughter. Shortly after, I went with my daughter into the nursery and gave all our family the good news.

My daughter and wife are now at home and doing very well. I can't describe in words how happy I am, but I know all you parents can relate to the range of emotions that I feel right now. Life is good.

Congratulations. It's a big relief to find out you're fertile after years of avoiding fertilising anything, isn't it?

It's really gonna be different for you, but it's so worth it.

Re: Post if your wife is pregnant

It was a big relief to find out my guys were still swimming after all the years of booze and drugs. Thought for sure I'd be sterile.

I guess I should list the "what I know" stuff.

Time spent trying: None. Utter and complete mishap when I "slipped one past the goalie" on our honeymoon. I shouldn't call it a mistake though, because we are both very excited.

Due: 02/05/08 according to the subtract 3 months and add 7 days formula, then backed up by an online due date calculator, and my Mom whose a nurse.

Sex: Too early to know, but after seeing what preteen girls dress and act like nowadays, please let it be a boy. It'll be easier for me to deal with raising the hunter than the prey....

Name(s): Boy- James Thomas
Girl- Sophia Lynn

First grandchild on wife's side, 5th on my side.

acoustix,
You disappear for 3 months then come back with this! Nice job! Tell Brody & the missus I said hi, and expect another CT home game some time soon...your life ends in 7 months.

Jeff P,
Congrats! Baby girls are awesome!!! Take plenty of pics, they grow fast! Post one if you can, we're suckers for babies, especially the ladies (Mrs U, katy, and carterbitter).

Re: Post if your wife is pregnant

Yeah I had so much going on with helping the wife with the wedding that I couldn't find time to get on here. It's nice to come back with news though.

We need to get some golf on this summer. Got new clubs that actually fit me, so my game is better this time around...Is Benny still around?

Re: Post if your wife is pregnant

dcasper reminded me that I'm up next. Not that I needed reminding--actually being this pregnant makes it hard to forget. My due date is Sunday, Father's Day. Nothing is happening so far. No contractions, etc. I have my regular appointment with a scheduled ultrasound tomorrow, so I'll know more then. I grow them BIG and they just want to make sure he's not getting too big.(Hopefully, Uncle Billy can keep the record.)

Hi all. I'm pretty sure my labor is starting. We'll see. Contractions woke me up. I'm letting husband sleep for now. At any rate, I think he might get a pretty great gift for Father's Day.

Happy Father's Day to all you new dads and dads to be!
