Val, get a decent work out routine (probably google can find you one) and get a friend or two to commit to doing it with you. It is much harder to bail out when others are expecting you to go to than to just not go if it is only you.

And don't worry about what people think, because frankly, they aren't going to care about how fit or strong you are. If they care at all it will be because you are on the machine they want to use.

Definitely use the school gym, especially if it is free.
