First, thanks. Lots.
Second, is there a sense that the any given operation is not likely to have any effect or is there still a sense of 'mission?' |

thanks for serving.
[ QUOTE ] New site for boring work days! [/ QUOTE ] are there any days at work that aren't boring, compared to what you were doing? also, what did you do during any time off you had in the desert? are you still friends with any fellow soldiers? |
Re: Ask an Iraq war Vet
Awesome thread.
I wish I had a lot of good questions. Besides Iraqis being better educated than you thought, what are some of the big misconceptions that Americans have about Iraqis and vice versa? |

God bless you and keep up the work
82 Airborne Bravo Bravo 69' - 78' Kill a couple for me okay? I wanted my son to join up but he would rather sit around all day playing on his little computer. |
Re: Ask an Iraq war Vet
A few questions here, and I would respectfully request that you wade through them and answer them in detail where necessary.
This may be impossible to answer depending on the political orientation of who is being asked, but did you ever feel any political pressure to alter the way you would talk or think about the way things were going in Iraq, from fighting in the field to morale to the way operations were being run? If there wasn't explicit direction to either shut up or put favorable spin on things, did you feel there was any atmosphere of control or coercion restricting your free speech or making it bad for you, your fellow soldiers/marines, and maybe your eventual military career(s) to acknowledge any problems in Iraq? Do you feel that your patriotism, suitability for higher command, worth as a soldier, or loyalty would be at all questioned if you were in one political party rather than another, or went to one church or no churches? |
Re: Ask an Iraq war Vet
Don't be too impressed, it only looks good at first glance. I spent all of '06 working in that palace pictured in Baghdad. The whole place looks cool at first, then you realize all the chandeliers are plastic and the marble is just thin sheets on top of concrete. Stuff was falling apart all over the place. Hell of a lot better than what his people were living in, but still pretty much crap. http://inlinethumb05.webshots.com/4/...425x425Q85.jpg
