Re: Official JULY Thread: General Discussion/etc

If any good players like ae, bobbo, etc want to swap small %'s with me for the wsop main event, pm me. I'll swap out a total of 10% of myself preferably across 3 players, 4 max. I hate selling pieces of myself so I see this as the next best way to decrease the variance on a 10k event.

anything that's even close to 50/50 is likely going to be a long term deal with make up as well. short term deals with no makeup (ie one tourney) are going to be way more in favor of the backer.

Exactly.

Yeah when I read Bobbo's post I was thinking to myself, who the hell would take that deal? I mean, it's probably +EV don't get me wrong, but a lot of players would take a much more "fair" deal to the person taking some of their action. Now you could argue Bobbo is a better player than the people you're going to get a better deal from, but even so his edge is not that much bigger to compensate for the [censored] deal, IMO.

HEK's idea is probably best for those who want to reduce variance and have a better chance at having a reasonable score.

The deeper you get coupled with an increased edge is where the difference really pays off. Do expected value problems of player A (with 60% chance of winning) v player B with (75% chance) of $1M run it X times. The deal you "overpaid" becomes more valueable the deeper your backee gets.

Well that's pretty obvious in any case. But the EV of taking whoever's action is how well you expect them to do in the "average" tournament in regards to cashes and no-money finishes and final tables, etc. Any reasonable 2p2er is definitely +EV in the stake, probably even with the structure Bobbo wanted others to take if they wanted his action. But as we all know, just because it's +EV doesn't mean you should do it nessicarilly. And I think if Bobbo is really serious about wanting some people to take his action he should be going for a more friendly deal to the staker.

I certainly would pick a better example to excerpt from a book because my opinion only lessoned from this book reading this.
