In Florida, all you need is to have taken the requisite amount of credits in the area you want to teach to get a three year temporary teaching certificate. Additionally you must get professionally certified as a teacher within five years of when you start by taking a general knowledge test, a subject area test, and an education test.

I live in NJ, and if you have the minumum GPA (2.75) then all you have to do is take a few classes and you can get a teaching certificate via the "alternate route" (as opposed to getting a BA in Teaching).

For me, however, it was a lot easier, since I am teaching at a private school. I was not required to get a certificate. Just pass the interview and I am in teaching. I've been doing it for the past 2 years and it's been great. I may get my certificate at some point in time, but right now I have no real incentive to do it (the school only pays an extra $500 for a teaching certificate).
