I always thought Laura Dern brings an awful lot to movies, and never really was used properly by Hollywood.

And on a related note, Sam Neill.

Guys, Laura Dern and Sam Neill have both "made it" big. Just because they aren't George Clooney big doesn't mean they haven't gone far.

A good answer to this question is Aiden Quinn.

Sam Neill especially.

The chick looked withered.

Well she's skinny as hell. I think certain women over the age of 35 should't be rail thin. It just doesn't look right. Look at that Teri Hatcher girl. She's starting to look a little gaunt.

Her eyes were also so deep set they looked sunken and like her eyesockets were puckered. I was seriously taken aback by that look. I thought she looked like the male lead's mother.

I interpreted "the next level" as whatever is next for a particular actor, not something that's the same for everyone. I know these two are well-known, well-respected, etc., but after JP they could have been STARS, or it least it seemed that way. They're probably exactly where they want to be, but I'm just sayin', is all I'm sayin'.

Anyway, if you want to get more obscure, I'll go with Katharine Isabelle. I thought she was great in Ginger Snaps and a few other things nobody's heard of, and it's surprising to me that no one has found a use for her; it's not like you can have too many young, attractive, and charismatic attresses.

Sam Neill seemed to fully get his chance. He starred in a lot of iffy projects and it made him less memorable, but it seems he got about as good a chance as most anybody's ever gonna get, and made a ton of money to boot. So if anything, he's more a question about sustaining than attaining the next level. I think that goes for a lot of people mentioned here.

Just saw Dragon: Bruce Lee story again. I've always thought Jason Scott Lee would hit it big as an Asian-American actor but never did reach so the way Jackie Chan or Jet Li did. Any thoughts?

He got pigeonholed as an Asian. Standard. There hasn't been an exception yet. It was a shame, though.
