On a side note, I had a chance to interview Jack back in my days as a sports guy. He was christening a new Nicklaus golf course north of Austin. I learned two extraordinary things that day:

1. Jack charges a fee of $2 million to design a golf course.

2. According to the press kit we were given, Jack had at that time 232 different golf courses in development around the world.

3. It's all about Jack!

So, by my fuzzy math, $464,000,000 in design fees?

I don't think he was getting $2,000,000 in the 1960s!

No, that 232 number represented the courses Nicklaus was currently working on. $2MM a pop.

Really? Wow. There's quite a bit of overhead, but I wonder how much they profit per course?

Wasn't trying to correct you, but I was curious about that number and how many he has done total, so I went to their website.

http://www.nicklaus.com/design/facts.php

Looks like Jack has 255 courses open worldwide. The company has 312.

He averages 16 courses a year with 27 as the highest.

They have 54 courses under construction.

Not a bad living for all involved...

Oh, I guess 232 was a total number then. I misunderstood the press kit.

I am also pretty sure his fee is independent of construction costs, etc.
