In proposing an alternate line I meant to say Heroine should be treated as a social problem rather than a CRIMINAL one. "Critical" doesn't make any sense.

If I am allowed to take out all stops with government funded resources to 'treat the social problem' (once it is theoretically legal) it makes my postion of 'heroin should be legal' all that much easier. I suppose I am planning on touching on those area's as potential means toward harm reduction but the main thrust of my argument I think will be pointing out the harms of herion prohibition and the benefits of removing these harms by removing the prohibition.

Do you have any specific suggestions or concerns? As I said I have never studied the subject and have never taken a debate class (or any class for over 15 years) and plan on relying heavily on sited arguments from others.

I'll debate either side of "Britain's law banning the glorification of terrorism is justified" or on a similar note "Laws banning holocaust denial are justified"

I'd take... or con on either of the drug legalization questions, provided the other participants are still interested, and can do it after the 14th.

I was the one who said I would do the Pro side for heroin should be legal.

Although I'm not as juiced up to do the debate as I was when I orgiginally posted to do it I still will and can wait until the 14th.

If you would rather do the pot and the pro pot guy is still interested that is fine, or if you want to tackle me before you take the lightweight drug that might be cool too. I'm a rank novice when it comes to any kind of formal debating, and have never studied this issue or anything, so I hope the group doesn't have high standards for my style

I would be glad to debate the con, or why heroin should be illegal. I have ample first hand experience regarding the subject of heroin, addiction, and the effects it can have on a person and more importantly, their family.

Note, I was never a user. And pre-heroin I was against the prohibition of all drugs. Sometimes reality changes things.

I think somapopper gets first dibs on me (we talked about starting on the 14th).

And to be clear, I will not be suggesting that heroin has positive effects on the family, or that it is not addictive. My postion is that it should be legal.

I was hoping you'd go against Tx:

1. To do it now
2. I know both of you have interesting life experiences to draw on.
3. TxRedMan's BBV posts entertain me. When you're constantly on the brink of permaban in BBV, you're doing something right.

Well somapopper has first dibs, plus it will take me a few days or so to put together my (borrowed from others mostly) argument.

Among other things I have in the past managed a recovery home (people mostly from prison and homeless shelters) for about a decade.

And as you know I am formerly homeless myself (and have cooincidently tried heroin via nasal injestion, never got addicted, and didn't really care for it anyway)

I was also attacked by a strung out junkie who entered my residence at 2am to rob the place and came at me with a knife. I think that would not have happened if his daily habit cost him the price of a pack of cigarettes. I don't know many drunks or cigarette addicts that rob people, especially with a weapon, to support their habits (including those that are homeless and jobless- but I digress I do not want to debate here).
