I NEVER switch accounts...EVER. Quite some ago I dumped the LLL account for a new name. But I NEVER go back and forth. I, also, take poker ethics very seriously.

FWF, I'm sure you do also. I don't think asking someone advice during a hand is something so awful that it should put your rep in question. We all know you're solid. I simply think that >1 person/hand isn't cool and I don't see how anybody can disagree.

that and people switch accounts on ftp all the time, and you think consulting someone for 1 hand is sketchy?

what

[/ QUOTE ]

personally, it doesn't really bother me, however, saying that because people do one thing which is more morally reprehensible than the other thing somehow makes the lesser of the two ok...just seems to be questionable logic at best.

[/ QUOTE ]

well obviously you're right and the prevalence of account switching doesn't justify some other unethical action

he also made it seem like it was "just this hand." And that is laughable.

[/ QUOTE ]

That was the only hand of the session I asked advice for. Also, I'm confused: are there people who really think calling/IMing a friend for thoughts on a hand mid-hand is unethical? If so, what about having a roommate sweat you?

wtf? this has been discussed before, and the bottom line is that online poker does not have a one-player-to-a-hand rule.

Ansky,

going to London? Any idea if you or other people are planning on getting a house for ESOP + EPT London? People have talked about it a lot and Shaun Deeb and others seemed set on doing it, but now everyones being lazy and I'm worried it might not happen.

Regardless where is everyone staying in Barcelona, and is anyone else going from Turning Stone straight to Barcelona to have more time to enjoy the city?

I'm going to Barcelona, but I'm not getting there til the 27th, because i have stuff to take care of back in DC between the end of the TS event and barcelona.

I don't know what the deal is with london, but I'm going to go during WSOP europe time, just not sure if i'll play the tournament there or just bum around.

here are my reasons for thinking it's fine:

a) no rule against it
b) so prevalent that everybody knows it happens. this is not justificatory in and of itself (i.e. account switching is prevalent but still messed up) but definitely mitigates the "wrongness"
c) it's not necessarily the case that more heads = better play for many reasons (good player asks worse player for advice and respects guy's thoughts, ends up making worse decision, etc.)
d) not clear what the significant difference is between real-time advice and ahead-of-time ?s on a forum if all the relevant information for answering the question is given in the post(if you say "when a total unknown 3bets the CO vs my HJ raise, what should i do with 8s?" is the same thing as being in that situation and asking somebody in chat) but nobody seems to find very specific posts on these forums to be unethical.
e) seems very similar to real time coaching, so if you have trouble with me calling Jay you should also have trouble with coaching services like 3bet, but I doubt you do.

Re: HSNL [censored] Thread AUGUST

HEK,

When I coach my students, while they have the "final say" on decisions made in a hand, quite often I will heavily reccomend an action they do in a given hand. Do you think this is immoral? There is absolutely no precedent for 1 player to a hand in online poker. (Also, I am pretty sure that other coaches do exactly the same, and this is very standard).

I think people have to stop using live poker as a reference frame for online. The fact is, at this point in pokers relatively young career, online poker is its own reference point. If there is nothing objectively wrong w/ something in online poker, then that is end of the story-- I do not believe that using a live poker comparison is relevant.
