Weekend Recap:

TFC 2 - 2 Colombus - Toronto got their first road point against a not good Crew team. I thought TFC might be able to pull off a win with their now potent attack and Crew's bad offense, but Andy "Elbows" Herron's return meant that Crew could score again. He scored two goals in 36 minutes of play before going out with a groin strain and Crew was lifeless without him. Dichio got another goal that was assisted by new pick up Cunningham (who also knocked a winning attempt off the post). Jim Brennan's tying goal off a set piece was a great strike from about 25 yards out.

KC 4 - 3 NE - Obviously Eddie Johnson reads twoplustwo. Nice hat-trick kid. Huge huge huge win for KC who just validated their season, which had been full of wins over bad teams. This game was a ton of fun to watch, and I'll skip the commentary to just post the scoring:

HOU 1 - 2 DCU - I didn't watch this, but this was a rematch of the Cup Finals last year. I will say that it's good to see DC picking up steam again since they're the team that represents MLS most often in international competitions. I think they were really tired to start the season right after the CCC and it's taken them a while to hit their stride. As for Houston, while it's good to see De Rosario score again, they are still struggling mightily. Again DC proves it's one of the best markets as over 18,000 people show up for the match.

LA 0 - 1 COL - I didn't watch any of this game either outside of the highlights. Galaxy continue to be awful and Donovan continues to struggle. I really hope he doesn't play forward over Twellmen or Johnson in the Gold Cup, but I know he will. Blech. Colorado basically controlled the game and should've won by a lot more after LA went down a man in the 25th minute. Hercules Gomez missed two wide open header chances before burying the third, but it was enough.

FCD 0 - 2 CHV - Chivas USA is not good, their fans are not good, but they managed to pull off a win. Maybe if the Mexican team sent some players to the US team they would see a better turnout and better results, but whatever. It's a shame they're having so much trouble in the front third because Ante Razov and Maykel Galindo could put up some serious numbers if they were ever able to get a decent cross.

CHI 0 - 0 RSL - Yawn. Actually, the game did have a lot of chances, with Chicago getting the vast majority, but neither were able to capitalize. Shocking since neither of these teams are very good. Also, Adu was taken off for the first time this year after 57 minutes. Welcome to Bust-ville, population Adu. If he really wanted to play in Europe you'd expect him to show up at least once in 7 games of MLS action so far.

Las Vegas Sports & Entertainment Group is prepared to wire a $35 million expansion fee to a league account in New York if it gets the go-ahead to start a franchise in the valley.

Mark Noorzai, the sports group's president, said he sent a letter of intent to MLS headquarters two weeks ago and requested a response by today. In the letter, Noorzai highlighted some of his group's ambitious plans, including a $500 million retractable-roof stadium, an adjacent hotel and casino, practice fields and other amenities on 200 acres.

"The proposal on the table is by far the best proposal that this league has ever seen," said Paul Caligiuri, a Soccer Hall of Famer. He says the group "is committed to building a franchise that will compete with teams in the rest of the world, not just MLS." Caligiuri has also gotten Alan Rothenberg, the founder of MLS, to back the sports group's plan.

Speaking from his New York office Wednesday afternoon, MLS President Mark Abbott, who oversees expansion, declined to comment about any prospective ownership group or proposal. "It's fair to say that Las Vegas is a market that's interesting to us. We think it would be very supportive of professional soccer, so it's a market we're looking at."

If you check out any soccer forum, you'll realize that not only is MLS play getting better by the year, but it's beginning to grow as a whole. This isn't the same league it was 5-10 years ago. When the European games are completed, who do you think streams our games? They love it just as much as we do (and I'm referring to us American soccer fans).

went to my first MLS game today, Toronto FC vs Colorado. The home side won 2-1 [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

I was very very impressed, and will definitely be going to more games. A big part of it is the atmosphere, the stadium is full and [censored] insane loud. The demographics are great - a younger crowd, women, and kids. It is pretty similar to a typical Raptors game, except way more energy. I would guess I'm in the minority of ppl that are < 30 and could actually afford going to Leaf games ... but to sit in a dead arena with people eating sushi and typing on their blackberry isn't my type of scene

The value was great too, $18 to site 4th row from the goal line (I spent more on beer). When you combine the quality of play with the atmosphere, I think the Jays and Argos are going to have a bit of competition on their hands this summer.

Nice.

I watched a bit of this game online, and TFC pretty much dominated the best team in the west. They're coming together quite nicely.

What was the deal with that RC at the end?

Nobody in my section knew what the reason was, the assumption was he said something to the official, there wasn't any type of mixup or play on the ball when it happened ... only other thing would've been some type of cheapshot to the face or groin?

great to hear. Everytime I've seen a TFC match, the atmosphere has always been excellent, and might I say, the best atmosphere in the league. I really hope to see it continue and hopefully grow the market. I think something that would help is if the MLS can score Iain Hume. Bringing in one of Canada's top talents to Toronto would be a big boost IMO
