maybe your response will affect his future decisions to cut people in line. if so, then that's a good reason to stand up to him.

edit to add-- i always stand up to these people. stuff like this always seems like a huge injustice to me. the collective attitude of "it's not worth it" enables these morons throughout their lives.

What chance does New York have when the good people do nothing?

El D,

Maybe, maybe, depends.

This is a very subjective thing for me because it totally depends on how I am feeling at the time. This could really piss me off if I had a [censored] flight, or maybe I wouldn't care. If it made me mad, I would persist.

In your case though, since no one else apparently cared, it makes you come off looking bad IMO.

Unless El D was physically threatening or verbally abusive, how could he possibly come off as looking bad for asking that someone else respect his and other people's time and social convention in general?

sd,

"You wouldn't make it in Thailand."

How so? (cue KKF)

Villains behavior is VERY standard here in Thailand.. Also standard that every one avoids confrontation. (Unfortunately, I still haven't gotten used to it.)

I think that's just a cultural thing - apparently it happens a lot in China too. I also hear stuff like nobody will let you out in traffic in Japan unless you manage to make eye contact with them (so that they are forced to acknowledge you're a real person, not an obstacle). It's not a cultural thing in the US though

Yes/No/Make him go to the back.

Me cutting in front of him is similar, in principle. I'd definitely say "That's actually the end of the line back there." in a fake-helpful manner. lol. But I don't persist if he doesn't leave. If I say this outloud and people hear me and he stands pat, and nobody else jumps in to protest, then I figure who cares? It ain't that big of a problem.

yeah i would probably say something. rather than accept his offer i would probably tell him to quit being a [censored] jerk and get to the back of the [censored] line. it probably wouldn't work because this guy sounds pretty shameless. but i would probably still make fun of his little headset all the way to the front of the line, and then when he was two spots away from getting a cab, tell the line lady to make him go all the way to the back.

[/ QUOTE ]

Does it matter what he is cutting into the line for? Would you fall for any particular sob story?
