Global Warming - Man cannot alter the global environment.

be careful with this one. i agree that man's effect on global warming is negligible, but man alters the global environment every single day.

can someone clarify if eating too much salt causes high blood pressure?

[/ QUOTE ]

this is true

[/ QUOTE ]

Not entirely. There are too many factors that contribute to hypertension to ascribe cause to only one of them. There are some people whose hypertension can be completely reversed by lowering their sodium intake. For most people, this isn't enough and medications are needed.

putting salt in water makes it boil faster

[/ QUOTE ]
Impurities in water do affect its boiling and freezing points.

[/ QUOTE ]

Not to a significant amount, however. Emperical evidence says that 2TBSP to 1L of water by <10%. And that's a v. high concentration of salt.

Keeping your cellphone in your front pocket causes sterility in men.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is sort of a half-truth that has been exaggerated extremely. Radiation is not healthy, and may in some cases lead to sterilisation.

[/ QUOTE ]

There is a big difference between ionizing radiation -- UV, x-rays, gamma rays, high energy particles such as alpha and beta particles -- and non-ionizing radiation, such as visible light, infrared, microwave and radio frequency. Ionizing radiation can damage DNA and protein, causing tissue death or inducing mutations which can sometimes lead to cancer. Non-ionizing radiation, especially RF and microwaves, at high intensity can cause damage from thermal effects. There have been a lot of claims that thins like 60 Hz power line fields, microwave ovens, and cell phones cause anything form cancer to colony collapse syndrome in beehives, but there is very little scientific evidence to support these claims, and no evidence of mutagenicity in bacteria or carcinogenicity in tissue cultures.

Entering your PIN in reverse will contact the authorities from the ATM.

[/ QUOTE ]
My PIN is the same forward and back. I expect the authorities have figured it out by now, since they probably arrive at the ATM just after I drive off every single time.

[/ QUOTE ]

Don't you know that a palindromic PIN means the authorities are tracking you?

Oops! I think I may have just started another urban legend.
