Re: Libertarian Socialism - I don\'t understand...

I'm just starting to read a collected bunch of Chomsky's writings, Radical Priorities, but I believe the editor makes a point about the utopian nature of both entities you talk about below. Also the Marxist utopia is the same as libertarian socialism's utopia, there just seems to be some disagreement about how to get there.. It's heavy work so far in the early going of this book.... we'll see.

WII comment: Marx clearly used the term "needs" in a very broad sense: so broad that he might as well have been saying "preferences" instead.

On Chomsky's politics: I haven't read very much of his stuff.

On Libertarian socialism in general: I think extreme libertarian socialism it is as utopian as extreme libertarian capitalism. The more I read about evolution, the more absurd any political theory which has "dramatic change in human conduct and attitude" as a prerequisite appears.

These things can "work" to some degree in very small societies in which everybody interacts with everybody else in the society on a daily basis.

Basically instead of trying to institute economic democracy on the state level, it would happen on the firm level.

Oh man do I see some problems there.
