Yup! But when an ace hits the board and two called my preflop raise, I know trouble is a-brewin'.

If it salvages my reputation at all, I c-bet that flop like always, probably for about $18. However, I then shut down completely unless I hit my two-outer.

Flop is J8x

He bets $40 into $55 pot, I push. He calls with T8. Sucks out.

A short break when you don't want to play is almost always better than forcing yourself to play with no motivation. You'll play badly because you're bored and frustrated with the situation. Go outside and get some fresh air, sample the local cuisine, ride around in a mine cart, or try to save the Sankara Stones: the break will do you good.
