Hummm....won a 80BB pot with AK unimproved yesterday. This hand kinda freaked me out, I wish I was on tilt. Hopefully I won't feel like this is a good idea in the future.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

UTG ($37.30)
MP ($34.40)
CO ($25)
Button ($63.20)
SB ($31.95)
Hero ($25)

Preflop: Hero is BB with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
1 fold, MP calls $0.25, 2 folds, SB completes, Hero raises to $1.5, MP calls $1.25, SB folds.

Flop: ($3.25) 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets $2.5, MP calls $2.50.

Turn: ($8.25) 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets $5, MP calls $5.

This bet is too small, just noticed!

River: ($18.25) Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, MP bets $12.75, Hero raises to $16, MP folds.

I can't put him on anything but air. If he bet a medium/small pocket pair, he'd either value bluff/push, or bet half pot hoping for a call from AK (me!). If he had a big pair he'd raise preflop, or raise the flop/turn. That awkward bet on a bad card for 99% of my holdings doesn't make any sense. Bet>check raise here obviously, but I was planning on giving up.

Final Pot: $47

and finally, I got one! ROYAL FLUSH! (Probably 65k hands liftetime)

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

Button ($15.05)
SB ($12.40)
Hero ($25)
UTG ($14.40)
MP ($14.15)

Preflop: Hero is BB with K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
UTG calls $0.25, 2 folds, SB raises to $0.5, Hero calls $0.25, UTG calls $0.25.

Flop: ($1.50) T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB bets $0.5, Hero raises to $2, UTG folds, SB calls $1.50.

Turn: ($5.50) Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB bets $9, Hero raises to $18, SB calls $0.90 (All-In).

This is the stuff I have to resort to these days to try and make $$. I never flop anything anymore and I don't flop sets.

xpert bluff by me. I wish if some people would fold overpairs.

so im having an issue with my play, if i play weak on anything but flat out nasty holdings, i win money, if i try to draw to big straights or showdown with two top pairs or the like, i start losing big money either because im betting with what i think is the best hand, or because i am calling bets that have more than a few people in the pot and end up with a larger pot.

so, what am i supposed to do? playing weak is not going to help when i move up, but unless i play weak and beat the crap out of 10-A straights, big flushes, and boats, i lose money constantly. thoughts?

Beat the game you're playing, get the roll to move up and remember you may have to adjust. That may cost you a little to start with but if you're confident of beating the lower level consistently you can always go back down and get more $$$.
If you are calling your winning play 'weak' and your losing play 'not weak' more detail may be needed for more specific advice

I will be a regular at 50 NL by January, despite missing out on free coaching recently offered. That is all.

Ugh, I'm staying down at nl25 until the end of January. Every time I move up I run/play like dogshit. That's all. :P

i suppose what im saying is that to this forum or big time players, i fold relatively big draws and the like to reraises and pushes when i have the odds or when it would be +EV, etc.

part of the problem is that i dont have enough experience yet with only about 18k hands under my belt. from some of the comments on some of my hand posts, i play a weak tight game. anytime i try to play a little stronger, i start losing chips like there is a hole in my pocket.

my total aggression on 8k hands at 5NL is only 2ish which i think is low. i find myself checking top pair weak kicker from the blinds or when there are a ton of people in a limped pot. that might or might not be the right play, but i go weak tight because my BR still sucks hard and any real variance hurts, hence the "safe approach" to the game.
