[ QUOTE ]
Tuq, Glad you enjoyed seven seconds or less. [/ QUOTE ] LOL. I was going to PM you when I was done to say "thanks" (just now getting to the epilogue). I suck for not knowing about this book sooner, but I am the diest-hard of the Suns fans among my friends. Very well-written, I'd be interested in how much a non-Suns fan (you for example) enjoyed it, because I already knew all the personnel going in, and had a rooting interest of course. Also, the author got REALLY lucky - as you know 80+% of the book covered the playoffs and they nearly were bounced in the first round, which would have changed his subject matter entirely. Seeing as I've made three long posts I'll wrap this up, but after reading the book only now do I realize how close they were to winning it all, and how a final crippling injury (Raja Bell) was probably the final brutal straw. |

GKA,
i dunno, to compare the spurs to their championship team, based on watching a lot of their games: Oberto/Elson<mohammed new bowen and horry<old bowen and horry Parker has improved, and duncan will be duncan, but ginobili hasnt played at that high consistent level ever since that championship. I think Dallas has flipped the script on them and would beat them again in the playoffs. I wont comment on PHX vs SA, but lets just say im not nearly as scared of them as i used to be. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Phx isn't clutch, Dallas and SA both know how to win in big games and d people up when it matters. I haven't seen that from PHX since the Majerle days. [/ QUOTE ] What exactly did Phoenix do wrong tonight that made them not clutch? They were down 2 points. They stopped the Mavs. They got as good of a look as possible with only 1 second left in the game. [/ QUOTE ] When did they stop the Mavs? Mavs were down 9, tied it up, and then scored to go up by 2 (should have been 3) with 22 seconds left. That's when Nash made his play to Marion to re-tie the game. Also, I don't know if a contested Amare three is "as good a look as possible" even with 1 second remaining. This has been a great series of games over the past 3 years, and I'm looking forward to more. However, for Art to say that Phoenix is better than the Spurs and Mavs is homerism personified. [/ QUOTE ]I just saw the end of the game(the clutch part of it). I saw them stop the Mavs twice. Once on a Harris travel and the other time on a Harris missed shot. In fact, Dirk scoring was the only time I saw Dallas score at all. [/ QUOTE ] Well Assani, watching 3 minutes of a game and then posting analysis on it probably isn't a great idea. The mavs trailed by 9 with 6 minutes left, and for the like 4-5th time this season the suns have blown a lead of 9+ pts or more. TNT actually showed a graphic, and pretty much every PHX loss they had a huge lead. Hoss, I understand your frustration, that was how I felt as a Mavs fan under Don Nelson. Now that AJ is here and the team's philosophy has changed I am 100% confident we can win it all. I never felt that way when we played the way the suns play now. [/ QUOTE ]I was only responding to the commentary on the Suns' "clutchness" so I assumed that the last 3 minutesminutes were all that mattered for that discussionee. |

tuq,
Elaborate on Josh Howard being dirty. Compare/contrast to someone like Raja Bell, for example? |

tuq, Elaborate on Josh Howard being dirty. Compare/contrast to someone like Raja Bell, for example? [/ QUOTE ] Aside from his Ginobili-esque knack for taking flops and the Kobe clothesline, I didn't know Bell was considered "dirty". He probably is the type of guy people love to hate...unless he's playing for your team, of course. The controversy with Howard is the staff felt he was deliberately tripping Suns players throughout the game, and the coaching staff went through tape and found several instances in a single game where he was doing so. I believe a call was put in to the league office about it. There was more to this story but that's all I remember off the top of my head and my last few posts in this thread have been Blarg-like in length. |

Tuq,
If we're going to get into little things that aren't called, I'd start with the rampant moving screens by the Suns (and all around the league.) I notice the Suns more because they run the pick and roll so damn much, and do it well. But, if we continue down this road, it may turn into some sort of argument that I don't want to have. Holla. |

I remember this being brought up during the series, Suns claimed he (and I believe another Mavs player) were tripping people so the Suns couldn't get into the fast break. They showed a bunch of different clips and it definately looked like that was what Howard was doing

The thing that Stoudemire and Diaw do so well is set the screen (legally), but then start to "roll," but do it in a way that they are still screening against the defender.
It's really a gray area, but the NBA seems to be allowing it. It's why Nash is able to drive to the basket so often, and it looks like no one is playing D on him, but his defender has been picked off the screen, and if another defender commits to Nash, he finds the person they were guarding for an easy basket, and if no one commits, easy layup for Steve. It happened a couple times against Dallas last night. |

[/ QUOTE ] Bob, that's not very sporting and in direct violation of the Sports Forum protocol which dictates that we get into an escalating and emotional argument which exhausts participants and spectators alike. I'll go next: you don't want to continue because you know you're wrong. Your turn. |
