[ QUOTE ] I would have to say Phil Ivey because he is the best player and also my favorite player. [/ QUOTE ] Nope. He's only cashed in one of the four big field NL events (20th this year) at the WSOP. He's a great all around player but hasn't won a NL tournament in over 2 years according to the Hendon Mob. So he's not the best choice for the 2006 main event. [/ QUOTE ] It just means he's due |

[ QUOTE ]
You sure its not Raymer you're talking about? [/ QUOTE ] Ding, ding, winner, winner, chicken dinner. Raymer's accomplishment of finishing in the money in the only four mega tournament fields (with two final tables) in WSOP history ranks with Harringtons. In fact, Raymer's accomplishment is statistically much more unlikely. Statistically, it's the greatest accomplishment in WSOP history. And he never squeaks into the money, he went fairly deep each time. So despite the accomplishments of all great players listed in this poll and on this thread, if you really want to put money on the 2006 WSOP Main Event, the choice is clear. It's Raymer. What ever the heck he is doing (marking cards, paying off TDs, having hole cards beamed directly into his brain from his alien overlords????) works really well in those giant fields. |

I still have too much admiration for Howard Lederer, it just seems like everytime he starts getting on a roll in a tourney he takes a horrible hit when he may be an easy 80-20 leader and loses to some random draw that no one expects to hit..

I would have to say myself. Who heard of any of the last 3 winners before they sat down at the final table?

Holy crap, I am amazed at how dumb so many of theses posts are. So many people are way, way too results oriented, and are even really bad at being results oriented.
I obviously can only guess, but I would say 1st Phill. I think DN is 2nd, but he wouldnt be if the feild wasnt so soft. I think it is super super close regarding all spots though. Also, I'm surprised noone has mentioned Greestein yet; he would be in my top 10 for sure. |

No love for Scotty Nguyen! That's no limit baby!
Scotty is a tough player and would easily make my top 10. Ivey is with out a doubt the most creative player. I agree with all the Raymer fans that his accomplishments are tough to argue. |

I picked Other, which includes all 10,000 of the other players, clearly the favorite. [/ QUOTE ] Pretty smart. Why deal with that pesky variance when you can go ahead and guarantee a sizeable loss by staking nearly the entire field? |
