[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I didn't say evolution was false but I did say that it is likely that it is a myth. [/ QUOTE ] Do you mean it's a true myth? Or that you're not claiming it is false, just that it's likely to be false? [/ QUOTE ] I'm saying that while evolution might be true, but there is enough doubt surrounding it that it is likely to be a myth. [/ QUOTE ] OK so you are saying it is likely evolution is false? This seems harsh if it is just because there are some things it hasnt yet explained. (I dont know what the water problem you have alluded to is - I'd be interested to hear a summary, but not enough to follow a link ) [/ QUOTE ] Yes, I am. Why, you might ask? It's for several reasons. 1) Evolution is a challenge to the Genesis account of creation 2) Christians believe in Satan 3) Christians believe that Satan is trying (through money, power, influence, fear, intimidation, etc.) to defraud the people into following him The prism that the Christian looks through, therefore, suggests caution (especially when it appears to contradict scripture as is the case with evolution) because Christians fear buying into the Great Deception. Now, in that light, I can't begin to explain to you how so many of them decided to vote for George W. Bush. |

I call myself a christian too - though I dont think most americans would. I dont see evolution as contradicting scripture at all, but that's not particularly interesting to me as I dont think the bible is a set of facts about the natural world.
Can you summarise the "water in the sedementary layers" problem you've mentioned? I dont recall ever hearing it before. |

Of course, evidence of water far inland is evidence of a flood. The problem is that while I see evolution being harped, I don't see them talking about that. If that evidence is correct, then it shows some serious bias. |

[/ QUOTE ] I dont agree that evidence of water far inland is evidence of a flood. It's evidence of water inland. Plenty of other explanations offer themselves (like a lake?). I dont have time to watch 50 minutes, and I find it particularly difficult to wade through given his operating assumptions (he refers to the bible as being a book of history and science which I just flatly reject). Can you paraphrase the science, avoiding the religious parts? I dont expect a perfect summary, but if it's strong enough for you to reject evolution you can probably sum it up in a paragraph or two? |

3) Christians believe that Satan is trying (through money, power, influence, fear, intimidation, etc.) to defraud the people into following him [/ QUOTE ] So if scientists discover irrefutable evidence of macro-evolution, you and your ilk will just dismiss it as "Satan's trickery". It's what most of us have always suspected, but it's refreshing to see one of you actually admitting that there's nothing that anyone will ever be able to show you that will change your mind on the subject. |

Well, I'm just surprised in light of your previous comments. It does raise some interesting questions, though. If you believe Satan is actively trying to deceive you, what possible difference could it make whether the case for evolution was rock solid or full of holes? Surely, Satan is capable of propagating a lie so convincing and powerful that there is no way anyone as limited as you or I could possibly refuse to believe in it, right? IOW, even if you were 100% convinced in the truth of evolution, it wouldn't make any difference. It could still be a lie of Satan. Satan>>>you, so you stand no chance in this fight. Why bother with the disingenous sham of pretending to care about the evidence for evolution? |

3) Christians believe that Satan is trying (through money, power, influence, fear, intimidation, etc.) to defraud the people into following him [/ QUOTE ] I actually find this to be a much more reasonable position than scientists being confused on all of the evidence. I remember you saying before you would have "more later" about people who have money/power. I am very much interested to hear where you are going with this. You should start a thread about this topic...sounds like it could be very interesting. |
