there are many many good players/posters who only play low stakes...for a number of reasons unless they have moved up i can think of lori, bones, yugo (world champ bitch! ), durron and many many many more some are working to move up, have done it and prefer low, bankroll issues whatever it is....there are a lot of people to post to hands in both forums beleive me man, it sucks to post a $200+15 hand and get 26 replies and 19 of them are people who've never in their life played a buy-in above $50+5 [/ QUOTE ] i completely understand, i'm just trying to play some devil's advocate |

I think having a forum devoted to higher stakes hands is a good idea. I've been coming here sporatically over the last couple of months, but I don't like picking through all the garbage to find an interesting discussion. I promise to post more (some?) if the forum gets split*.
*I've told myself many times in the past that I would do this, so its hardly a guarentee. moses |

As Gigabet said in "Almost there with success and failure." He does not normally respond to posts b/c it can't be good for his long term financial situation. It makes sense that many high stakes players don't post that much for this same reason. Not because they don't have their own forum.

ok, perfect world. the forum gets split. the elites get their owne area, what happens to the low stakes people ? who will be here to help us make our way to the next level save for a few benevolent high stakes players wishing to take a few steps off their high horse and do a few minutes of community service ? why even have a low stakes forum in that regard? [/ QUOTE ] what do the small and medium stakes NL$ players do? |

"pleeeeeeeeeeeze split the forum" "I think I would start posting if it was split" just got this aim from a very good 109, 215+ player who used to post here a bit and who i haven't seen around in a looooooooong time [/ QUOTE ] Mind sharing his handle? If it isn't the person I'm thinking of, another $109/$215 player told me he stopped posting because there wasn't enough good discussion |

sure, we could split the forum into speed high, regular high, speed low, regular low, oot, etc, and people will still bitch about things. It will also kill the sense of community we have here.
I think the idea sucks, but I'm really not a significant source of playing knowledge around here. It is likely that many would read one forum, so what you need to decide, is it worth losing a good portion of the group from one board or the other. In all honesty, with a wife and 4 kids and lots of playing/earning time needed, I spend more time than I should now. If I had 2 forums, I would likely see where my freinds were mostly posting and just read that one. If that didn't work out I would likely just drop in now and then and stop trying to keep up. My random thoughts |

1) many of the social posts are made by the higher stakes players
2) how many high stakes posts do you actually think would be made? 3) how many high stakes players do you actually think are not posting because they think there is clutter? 4) why did the special "all content mostly high stakes forum" die, on the other site? 5) it's really not very hard to scroll through say, 500 posts in less than a minute. they all have their buyin information in the title now majority. 6) this means that if you actually think that the only interesting discussion can come out of the high stakes hands, you could just browse for those *incredibly* easilly. 7) many of the high stakes players have very little interest in this 8) none of the low stakes posters would restrain themselves from posting comments on the high stakes hands, you'd still have to wade through them in the high stakes forum 9) none of hte low stakes players want this to happen, as at the moment high stakes players comment on their hands and they would prefer them to be given less disincentivization from doing so in the future, they want to get better too, and that process will be slowed dramatically if they have fewer high stakes players commenting on their hands. 10) i don't think the desires of the 15 posters who really qualify as high stakes players can possibly outweigh the pile of hundreds of low stakes players who wouldn't want it. 11) i think you'd be shocked at how incredibly quickly the high stakes forum would shrivel up and die, as basically no high stakes player ever cares enough to post about anything. this isn't because they don't like the forum, it's because after a few thousand sngs, really there aren't that many things that are intersting that come up. continuing, a forum with 5 posts a day just wouldn't be that good. 12) didn't we just have this discussion last week? i'm sorry that since the last time this idea came up, a new generation of people have "retired," and a new bunch of the low stakes players have become the grumpy old high stakes players, but come on, s.m.d. in summary, i think the idea is lousy. c editing to add: i didn't read any of the rest of this thread. i'm sure other people have thought or posted about other things. i particularly want to point out number 8. if you think having a high stakes forum would just mean that high stakes players would post there only, you are a moron. anyway, i'm not going to read the rest of this thread either, i'll read responses to my post, and children of that node, but none other. |
