I think I posted something like this in one of the other threads, but I'm still confused as to how this situation:

A wants to gamble with B
B gets A to accept these conditions
A loses
A doesn't pay

= B is a scumbag

[/ QUOTE ]

You missed out the bit where B lied to A to get him to accept the conditions. Some think the lying is acceptable and all part of the game, others don't gamble on golf.

Neither do I, but I have gambled for serious amounts of money before on the golf course. When I first started I was naive to this and lost and took my lumps and paid like a man and learned how the game is played for real money.

I am still a lifetime loser at golf. Don't you think it says something that anyone that has golfed for serious money has the same outlook on this?

I still believe this kind of comes down to an internal misunderstanding of the nature of their friendship...

Jordan, I'm pretty sure you would take an edge vs. me on the golf course and gladly take my money if I agreed to the spot, even if it was a ridiculous spot. But would you really go out of your way to create an unfair edge? I also doubt you would let me gamble away enough money to devastate my life, but who knows, you are a cold-ass mofo.

I really think the moral of the story is, Know who your friends are.

This is true and is the crux of this situation IMO.

I think Ram overestimated his friendship with Phil. Of course I would never do this to you, but we wouldn't be gambling for 20k a hole either. Ram obviously isn't rich enough that 20k a hole is nothing to him, which is what gambling amongst friends usually is, nothing.

edited for clarity

Here is a question I would like to know Ram's answer to. If he ended up winning by getting lucky, but the found out Ivey had lied, would he expect ivey to pay him or claim the play/bet to be void?

For example:
Supposed the negotiations went down as Ram said. However, he was only able to play one round and was called back to England for an Emergency. However, let's say he won 200K in that round.

Then over the next 3 days Mark Goodwin gets schooled and it becomes clear that Ivey has improved by a lot and that Ram's winning on day 1 was a fluke of luck.

Would he say to Ivey, dont pay me the 200K i won because since you lied about your handicap the whole round is void.

it seems that by claiming the round is void due to the lying in negotations, he shouldnt expect ivey to pay him even if he got lucky and beat the hustler.

I'm sure Ram would say that yes, he would not expect to get paid and have the round voided (given the sticky situation he is now in). But do you really think he wouldn't expect to get paid?

the more i think about this, the more likely it is that Ram had no intentions of paying, and was freerolling.
