no, I played on gaming club and on UB before Party opened up the 1K tables. Bounced back and forth until Party opened up 2K: since that time, I have been on Party almost exclusively with a few jaunts at gaming club when I feel like playing higher ...

geez - I did not realize that knowing statistical terminology was necessary to post here. I never knew what vpip was and did not care enough to create and account just to ask. Happy?

please note that I did not include this figure in my original post - only as a response when KKF was claiming that I was not a winning player; I don't really care if you believe me or not - the regulars know how I do. I am amused however that you find the need to take the time and post such a message. sorry if I hurt your feelings my not including you as one of the "big guns"

I thought this was a forum for discussion. That was my goal. ... I also wanted to get some advice about turning pro from some of the experienced/intelligent/thoughtful posters.

not all about the numbers NLfool. security in the knowledge that my chosen profession will subsist, job satisfaction, flexibility, potential burnout all enter the discussion. not the kind of decision I would make lightly - especially since as I said, going back to my current profession would be difficult after significant time off ...

I don't see how someone as smart as you (or anyone else who can beat high stakes online games for x00,000k+ per year) could find poker fulfilling for the rest of their life. There is so much else to do in the world, and there are certainly ways to make an amount of money which would dwarf the best poker money available. That doesn't mean you should keep your engineering job, that depends on how much you enjoy it and where it will take you in 10 years.

I don't really understand what kind of answer this forum could give you. If you are a millionaire with a high academic standing, you have got to personally know other exceptionally successful people. As strange as that seems to me, thanks for posting, the poker content is excellent and very well written. The 2nd part is very, very important, take note Sklansky.

to clarify when i say skeptical you can read that as "i do not believe it at all"

AJ --- I have played with this person at Foxwoods a few times although i don't know him all that well. But we have developed a rapore and are friends...

From both talking to him, exchanging emails, and watching him play, i consider him the best poker player i have ever had the pleasure of playing with (and have a decent amount of experience with)...He is ranked #1 on my list of poker players in terms of talent and ability. He is also very clearly "super-intelligent"...

I consider myself a good judge of character and he seems to be a good and honest person. 6 million is very hard to believe, but i for one believe every word of it. I wouldn't be shocked if the # was exageratted but i am >80% sure that it's not.

I will not go into more details because I don't want to violate his privacy....

Somoleus,

I hope you start posting here...Unfortunately i don't have much advice for you regarding your question. You know the risks and you're the only person that can make an totally informed decision.

The risks/negatives are: legality issues, boredom over time, games drying up, unfullfilling profession (this doesn't matter much if the rest of your life is fulfilling)

You know the positives and have mentioned them in this thread...

I'm confiednt you'll be sucessful with whichever you choose. Good luck with your decision!
