Default Suck It Up Soldier and Deal With It

[ QUOTE ]
So can my boss do this?

[/ QUOTE ]
Yes he can....Hopefully he gave you more notice than a week.

[ QUOTE ]
cause my boss is too cheap to pay extra for moving on a saturday.

[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe and maybe not. There could be other reasons that aren't communicated to an hourly employee. Your low man on the totem pole. Either start you own business or suck it up.

It is not like they are moving offices every month. Suck it up and deal with it in silence. You will look like a jackass if you complain.....unless you have a BETTER reason than what you have stated so far.

Just wanted to know if it's legal that's all. I mean if it is illegal someone SHOULD say something correct?

[/ QUOTE ]

Making a 40 hour a week employee work a 40 hour week isn't illegal.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is too simplistic a view.

[/ QUOTE ]

Obviously. So is, "OMG, I my boss wants me to work 1 Saturday in 4 years. This has to be illegal!".

Seriously, the OP can refuse and really doesn't have to work it if he "has previous plans". He's really getting bent out of shape over something just about every other person who has a 9-5 has experienced before.

[/ QUOTE ]

I just asked if it was. Also please point me to where I said this was the first saturday in 4 years. I've been asked to work many saturdays and got paid OT for them. This situation is different.

[/ QUOTE ]

Sorry, someone else must ahve said the first Saturday. And the Saturday in question is different in only 3 ways:
1) It's replacing a day of work
2) No OT pay has been promised
3) You are too chickenshit to tell your boss you have previous plans and can't make it

[/ QUOTE ]

1 & 2 are huge. 3..mmmm..not chickenshit, but avoiding confrontation.

"So for the last 4 years i've been working at this company. Schedule for all full-time employees has been Mon-Fri, fluctuated from 8-5 to 7:30-4:30."

granted its vague; but i took this to mean: for the last 4 years my schedule has been monday thru friday 8-5 or 7:30-4:30

LOL..I don't flip burgers dude. Only 2 or 3 are salaried here, because he doesn't do salary until 5 years of employment. It's a small family owned company that his mother works at also. She basically said in convo with us that it's cheaper to move on Fri. So chill with the condescending remarks. I also think my reason is pretty effing good actually.

Yeah it was worded poorly. Office hours changed about a year ago from 8-5 to 7:30 to 4:30 cause we have so many clients on the east coast.

And you didn't start a thread about it asking if it was legal for your hours to change?

Tell me, which is a more significant change to your work scheudle...

A) Working one Saturday
B) Working everyday a half hour earlier

I'm just trying to point out that you really, really picked a minor occurence in a typical 9-5 job to bitch about. This is very standard. You work it or you don't depending on how much you care about your job in relation to your other plans.

YOu live in the same area as me. You realize the difference in traffic from 4:30 to 5. Changing hours was a blessing and he only did it if we had 100% approval.

You keep repeating it ("is this legal"), so here's the answer:
Assuming you're not union, or under contract specifying otherwise, "norms" and reasonableness have nothing to do with it. If you refuse, you can get canned, no repercussions.
