I put both Page and Clapton above Hendrix.
Page was better at: Composing, performing, showmanship, soloing, changing gears, and better with the acoustic, and bow-playing. Hendrix was great at what he did, I'll admit, but he had many less dimensions than did Page. Most great guitarists just say Hendrix was the bomb and better than them because he a) is dead b) was American and c) was black. That's right I said it. If the grim reaper showed up and said I have to pick a guitarist to compose and perform a good enough rock song to keep me alive, I'd pick Page everytime over Hendrix. Unless the reaper was wearing a Mariners hat or something. |

I once heard somewhere that Hendrix, as a very young child of about 6 or 7 years of age, wanted a guitar so much that it was "psychologically damaging". I haven't really tried to verify it because, quite frankly, I don't want to find out that it isn't true. If it is, I really think that's about the coolest thing I've ever heard.

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] This is not up for discussion. Hendrix may be the better performer. But at a talent standpoint. Page is the best guitar player ever. Just watch the Led Zep DVD { the one with the desert on the cover} [/ QUOTE ] I just might have to do that. Although I'll still cringe if he does the violin stick routine. [/ QUOTE ] Can't remember if it is Page or Plant who does it but the violin definitely gets busted out. Pretty sure it's Plant. [/ QUOTE ] Page [/ QUOTE ] I may be mistaken but I think at some point Plant plays a violin solo . [/ QUOTE ] You are mistaken. |

Led Zeppelin recorded some of my favorite all-time albums, but what did he do after that. Not exactly greatest of all-time material. He 'was' awesome but now he's kind of a has been in a way. I'd rank someone like Keith Richards higher than Page. [/ QUOTE ] i want to order these dvd's after hearing you all rant about them is THIS what you guys are reffering to? [/ QUOTE ] Nope. It;s the one with a desert on the cover. Can't find it right now or remember the name of it. [/ QUOTE ] try this http://www.amazon.com/Led-Zeppelin-Rober...102&sr=8-12 [/ QUOTE ] That's the one. The Royal Albert Hall and Earl's Court performances are amazing. One gem (among many) is "In My Time of Dying." The album version is pretty forgettable, Jimmy Page is just unreal playing it live. [/ QUOTE ] You are insane. |

I'm 25 and would easily forfeit going to another concert ever again if I ever had the chance to see Stevie Ray Vaughan once. He's not even my favourite artist. But boy oh boy, as far as I'm concerned, I have never seen anyone come close to him on guitar. Phenomenal is a phenomenal understatement.

A lot more of the success of Zeppelin should be given to the rest of the band, especially John Bonham. That guy was the glue, the foundation. He was incredible but it's hard for the average listener to appreciate it. Imagine how [censored] some of those songs would have been with a mediocre rhythm section. Now that's not to say the songs sucked, but that rhythm is so important in rock n roll. |
