There are some pretty solid suggestions in this thread. I'd add these to your lineup if you are not in the mood to cook.
Bertolli Frozens are superior to all other frozen pastas I've ever tried. Each ingredient is flash frozen so all of the separate flavors come through the dish nicely. All you do is throw the contents in a large skillet, cover and heat on medium for roughly 10 minutes, and stir once halfway through. IIRC, they are < $10 and if you throw together a salad and some garlic bread you will easily get two meals out of one package. Some of the flavors include Chicken Parmigiana and Penne, Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Portobello Mushrooms, Shrimp Asparagus & Penne, Spinach and Ricotta Cheese Ravioli, Italian Sausage and Rigatoni, and others. |

Snafu,
Another mention for the OOT Trader Joe's thread I mentioned already. Tons of microwave stuff there that tastes great. I was reminded of this because of your frozen skillet pasta comment. I just added a post there about the Mushroom Fettucine, which is a similar type frozen skillet deal. I haven't seen the Bertolli, but will look for them now. I was suspicious of frozen pasta in a skillet, but the TJs ones are really tasty. |

I buy about 20 bags of the trader joes frozen veggies each time I go, they have an 8 vegi medley, a stirfry medley and a broccoli/carrots/cauliflower combination that you can steam. None of these have sauces, just straight up veggies, I eat about 2 of these bags/day. My fridge is basically stocked with meat (chicken/beef), fish (frozen TJs fish various marinades) and vegetables. I eat a lot of eggs and cottage cheese for breakfast, I eat larabars and jerky as snacks, and a decent amount of almonds/walnuts/randoms. This is basically all I eat and cook everyday. This diet isn't totally new, I've always been into these types of foods, but this is the first time I've completely cut out bread/rice/pasta/potato out of my regular diet (I will eat these things when going out if I feel like it, but more and more I feel so full and ill after eating out that I don't eat out as much). Needless to say, I've lost a fuckton of weight and haven't felt this good in a while... I also started crossfitting which encouraged this diet. But yeah, I pretty much only eat this, throw in a few bananas/apples... it's pretty easy to maintain (takes me 15 mins to do grocery shopping each week, but it is fairly expensive, relatively speaking)...
The money isn't an issue for me as I have no issues with spending $ on health. I assume for a lot of you this won't be an issue either due to poker... |

This is really easy to make if you have an electric frying pan
![]() Cubed steak Need: cubed steaks, diced tomatoes (if you go canned I recommend gettting one that has some jalapenos in it as well), onions, green peppers Cut up peppers and onions, I usually use 2 each. Brown steaks in pan with a little oil or water, usually takes about 8 minutes on each side. After the first side is done, toss in the peppers and onions and add a little water so they don't stick. Keep the frying pan covered to generate some steam. When you've cooked the steak on both sides add in the tomatoes and turn down heat. Leave it covered for a few more minutes and mix it all up. Serve over rice. There's usually a bunch of pepper/onion/tomato left so I throw it in some tupperware for lunches. Just season up a chicken breast and broil it in the oven until its done, then add the leftovers and throw it over rice again |

jman,
get a rice cooker. very simple and easy to clean. you just put 2 cups of rice, 3 cups of water and plug it in. learn to stir fry baby. ground pork, chilli peppers, garlic, onion, soy sauce, then throw in a bunch of chinese cabbage. whatever you like. then break a few eggs in a cup, add some soy sauce and about a tablespoon of oil. mix it up and make an omlet. eat w/ hot sauce or soy sauce and rice. if you start cooking like this, rice based dishs and some meat stir fried with spices, you will be eating heathly and it tastes great. once you get used to cooking, it really wont take you long to prepare stuff. i can cook the above in like 3 minutes. gotta get rid of the mac and cheese - that stuff is disgusting, havent eaten it since i was a kid. |

if you have to go the instant food route, get some instant noodles imported from japan/asia. these are like a million times better then the american version.

AZK, f2:
Your posts have inspired me to get back to cooking more. I'm still pretty good in terms of eating healthy, but 've been slacking a bit the last couple of months and leaning on frozen meals a bit more than I like and eating out a bit too much. Cooking up simple meals like the ones you mention are often much more satisfying to eat. |

jman,
take the left over rice from yesterday. throw it in a pot on medium with a little bit of water. start mashing the rice with a spoon so looks like a paste/thick liquid, take some ground pork in your hand and shoot some soy sauce onto it and make a little ball, throw that in there, slice some fresh ginger and throw that in there, add sliced green onion and parsley. tilt the pot up with one hand and break an egg with the other hand. put the egg inside and then the let the rice over it. the egg will cook itself inside of the soup and the yellow part (forget the name) will harden and the white part will mix with the rest of the soup. let it sit about 20 seconds and then pour it into your bowl. add some soy sauce to taste. might sound complicated, but it isnt with a little bit of practice.

jman,
kimchi-jigae take one of those asian instant noodles. boil the noodles in water. add the chilli powder, but discard the seasoning. take a bottle of kimchi you bought from vegetable section of grocery store (assuming you can find it) and throw a ton of that in there. add some green onion. break an egg in a cup and beat it with a spoon and drop that in there. throw some tofu in there. eat with rice. |
