I might just go to tournaments for a few months. My ROI is just absolutely sick and proves I know how to be a winning player. Sharkscope it if you don't believe me (FGators26). Probably > you and of course I run bad as well. [/ QUOTE ] wah wah wah |

fgators,
Read adanthars post again. Twice. That said, it is certainly possible to have legitmate losing sessions or streaks at 1/2. BUT: Read the rest of this carefully, because I'm going to spell out what all these smartasses are implying. First, about luck: I cannot remember a session where I didn't get [censored] a few times, often several times. If I wanted to, I could take my 2000 hand -$575 session from yesterday, post a graph, post two set over set hands for $500 total, post two or three 5 outers for >$100 each and one three outer where I was outflopped but couldn't have lost less given the action, post a few other 3-5 outers for less than $100, post several 60/40ish hands that I lost (while leaving out the ones I won). If I did all this it would look like I got hellishly unlucky. Sometimes, people make these kinds of posts; "omg ten terrible hands I ran so bad this session." Sometimes they are right and they did run bad. I didn't. If I'm selective about it, I could make it look like that maybe, although anyone who plays a ton of hands a day realizes that what I just described is pretty normal. What actually happened is I played like [censored]. Not in those ten hands, but in about 100 of the other 1990, including two flopped sets where I failed to stack a guy who was asking to get stacked, including getting fancy with JJ v QQ overpair real deep, turned J, missed a turn checkraise, river A, missed a river checkraise. Didn't stack KK with AA in blind v blind. and plenty of small-medium sized pots where I paid off two bets when I should have folded to the second, or where I failed to extract the second when I should have gotten it. I also made a couple bad calls that happened to be right, and I sucked out big a time or two. Add it all up and I got what I deserved. When you play a lot of hands, you usually get what you deserve, and thinking you don't is counterproductive unless you're winning big. When most people post bad beats here, they do it because it's cathartic; they understand they aren't owed no bad beats, bad beats [censored] happen and when they happen if you feel like it you post a beat thread and try to make it funny. Good beats happen too. You win races. Yes, you do. Your big draws hit. Yes, they do. You get AA v KK and it holds (82% of the time). Yes, you do. Don't tell us you don't. I guarantee that if you have a 62-page word document with bad beats and you don't have a corresponding haha-I-sucked-out document, then you selectively remember bad beats. When you lose, you lose because you get less with set v overpair than your opponents, because you get less with AA v KK than your opponents, because you get less when you have your opponents outkicked than when they have you outkicked, and yes, because you payoff more when they hit their [censored] draws than they payoff when you hit yours. That is poker. First thing you should do after you setup pokertracker is delete the word document. Then stop thinking about poker the way the word document implies you think about it. Play fewer tables. Reread good threads over and over until you get what the better players are saying. Your poker logic when you give advice or make reads in threads is sketchy very very often. Think more, play less. I've avoided saying that you suck, because frankly, 75% of the time I think I suck, even if I'm winning, so unless someone reeeeeallly sucks, I'm in no place to judge them. And you don't suck, for the stakes you play, in the way that some of these guys who beat 10/20 (or beat 3/6 and dump at 25/50) think you do. But, I read almost every thread posted in the main strategy forums, and I've seen enough of your posts to know you regularly misapply concepts. And I've played with you enough to know I don't mind you at my table and that you're probably better off playing 100NL for a while. So there's my advice. |

Great post LearnedfromTV .
It's actually a very useful post for me (a standard SS donk) irrespective of whether FG cares about it, so cheers for taking the time to compose it. |
