Really enjoyed it, really disliked elements of the ending, as some stuff just came way too out of left field.

While I found the movie to be entertaining, I must say that I was expecting more - especially given the praise heaped upon it by critics of all sorts.

There are two main issues for me at this point.

It's been done. This isn't too much of a surprise given that the movie itself has been done before. And while hearing the Stones in a Scorcese flick and seeing Jack go over the top are pleasant, we've seen it before - and better I'd say.

Also, the portrayal of the ruthlessness of criminal violence is nothing new as well. We've seen Scorcese do it, we've seen Tarantino do it while influenced by Japanese films and Scorcese - here we seem to see Scorcese influenced by himself and those he's inspired.

One of the final scenes also reminded me of Mystic River (a film I have many problems with), and I think it's much more than location. Again, we have a movie with talented but heavily bankable stars that can overtake the plot.

Which brings me to my second problem with the movie. While in my opinion Mystic River boringly rehashed Shakespearean/Greek tragedy plotline and themes, it at least addressed moral issues. I expect some manner of moral exploration in a Scorcese film. I didn't really find any in The Departed.

I suppose there are issues of paternity and societal or internal corruption. Even if we're intended to do our own intellectual legwork, I don't think the movie gives us enough to go on.

I generally liked the movie but felt that there were 2 or 3 real contrivances that were uneccessary or poorly explained. I'd expect more from Scorcese. I won't list the problems for spoiler reasons but I'm sure that those that have seen the movie will know what I'm talking about.

i did hear you and i didn't like it, either.

the huge holes in the storyline, unnecessarily random scenes, unintentionally comedic lines of dialogue, and obnoxious over-acting made it impossible for me to even partially suspend disbelief.

The last 15 minutes or so was a complete insult to an audience that had invested over two hours in the movie. And the rat on the railing at the end is so in-your-face obvious that a first year student in a film class would be laughed out of the room.

i'll give dicaprio high marks for doing the best he could with very poor material.

i think scorcese should be embarrased by this movie. i was embarrassed for him. if this movie was made by any other director and/or didn't have an all-star cast, it would've been exposed for the joke that it really was.

Saw it last night and loved it. Very entertaining.

I, unlike many of you really like DiCaprio and thought he nailed this part--the only thing is that I wasn't surprised by his kick-ass performance. Marky Mark was funny as hell. Damon was weasely, slimey, and so bothersome that he was just perfect. Nicholson was great as usual and the cool thing about him is that he was nasty all the while funny as hell, he really showed his humor in this movie.

I really enjoyed this movie. I though DeCaprio played his part very well, as did almost every casted character. Awesome movie.

Everybody acted their asses save, save Jack, who just played himself, but it worked. Baldwin especially just killed [censored].

Whenever I see something like this, it always causes doubt in my mind, because I dont understand the state of mind of a person who stops to post something like this.
