Rick,
I only know plain English. Scorcese uses one shot of a shower head, but, of course, DiCaprio's character is a bit of a Norman Bates type with his own brand of identity confusion. On subtext of the film is the father/son relationships running throughout--not quite the mother/son from Psycho but close enough. BTW, I saw the movie with a date, my first one in say twenty years. (Is a thirty-five year old too young for me?) John P.S. A student told me she also saw the film last weekend, and she pronounced it with a perfect Boston accent: "The Depaaated." She also said the language was pretty bad, abd that there were a lot of old people in the audience, you know people in their fifties. |

[ QUOTE ]
I definetly dug that Nicholson's part was jacked up from IA and I liked seeing how Leo's character got involved in that scene. Granted I didn't see the other two IAs so I don't know if it was addressed in either [ QUOTE ] Most of the stuff from the beginning of the movie about Leo's character was stuff that was revealed in IA2. In the original Infernal Affairs, the moles are both well in place by the time the movie starts. The second sequel goes into depth about their recruitment. [ QUOTE ] I would've liked it a bit more if Damon's character and Leo's character had crossed paths a few times like Tony Leung's and Andy Lau's. [/ QUOTE ] I really missed the opening scene in the record shop. I would have loved to see it. |

my boss saw this n described to me and it fit...it Scorsese doing a by the numbers less flashy michael mann type cop flick..good acting, good dialogue, looks nice but not anything special.
casino and goodfellas far greater than this...in fact despite how long it is i'd take S.O.N.Y over departed. the ending was lame...well worth the money but i doubt ill be dying to watch this over n over again on cable dvd etc |

[/ QUOTE ] My friend Greg and his wife just got Netflix. She really leans toward movies with absolutely no swearing, sex, or violence (that's why Greg goes to movies with me a lot). Greg asked me for some recommendations, and I thought of "Amelie". But there was that five second scene were Amelie tries to visualize all the couples in Paris who were having orgasms that moment. When I described the scene to Greg, he said he better pass on it. I gave up after that. ~ Rick |

I think a lot of people on this forum completely overhype Casino (especially since there's obviously the gambling bias). I think The Departed is clearly a better movie than Casino. You can nitpick the ending and tiny plotholes all you want, but The Departed never drags the way Casino does toward the end IMO.

I'm with you on Casino. I thought it was a mediocre movie at best. Clearly not even close to Goodfellas or The Departed. Other than DeNiro insisting on wanting the same number of blueberries in each blueberry muffin, nothing memorable. Sharon Stone was pretty good in it though.

I finally caught this movie Friday night. For the most part, I found it very enjoyable. My only problems with it:
1) The big one - the Boston accents are HORRIBLE. Sooo overdone, unrealistic, and painful for me to listen to...I really had to force myself to ignore it after the 1st half hour so I could try and enjoy the movie. 2) While Leo was awesome, I though Damon's character was pretty weak. It was basically exactly the same as his Will Hunting character. Not a show-stopper by any means though. I still give it an A-. |

Ray,
I hope you're going to say Damon's accent was horrible. I laugh every time I hear that. While I don't know anything about Boston accent authenticity...he is from there, yes? Also, I thought the character was poorly written/handled. I thought Damon did good with what he had to work with...but still that wasn't much. |

AJ,
I thought all of the accents were pretty bad. Damon is from the area yeah, but that accent is fake. |

They really over did the whole "everyone is undercover nonsense". It was total campy. The ending was laughable.
