Crash. Not the recent one about racism, but the first one about car crash fetishists. Just a boring pile of crap. [/ QUOTE ] Good call! Saw this one in a college writing class. Needless to say, I was quite uncomfortable throughout the entire film. Why is James Spader such a [censored] weirdo? |

I have never walked out of a theatre while watching a movie, however, I wish I would have walked out of these movies:
1) Spice World -- oh yea, nothing says awesome like 5 guys going to watch this in an empty theatre! (did I really just admit to watching this? .. ugh) 2) Battlefield Earth -- I would get more pleasure at home if I masturbated with a cheese grater. 3) Monkeybone -- I found this to be the least best of these three. Now I realize why I don't go to theatre's anymore, and just wait for the DVD to come out in the store. |

the brothers grimm. No clue why this movie was made. It kept making less and less sense. After trying to stay awake for a bit we just decided to leave. Same goes for "Lady in the Water", but unfortunately I stayed for the whole thing.

Beaches was painful to watch.
In one scene it seems as if one of the characters dies. Seemed like a decent ending, I made moves to get up and go....but she didn't die. I swore under my breath as I sat down. People were crying. I couldn't believe it just went on and on. |

Never walked out of a theater, but one I recently yanked before the DVD finished was Click. I really can't imagine this being any worse, and am now convinced people are paid to write good reviews for garbage like this on IMDB.

The only movie I remember walking out of was Visconti's "Death in Venice". I saw it when first released in the early 70's and when it was acclaimed. I like other movies by Visconti, but that one was too much for me. It seemed so full of self-importance and self-consciousness and, of course, length...
Not sure if after 35 years I am prepared to give it another shot. The only redeeming feature was the Mahler soundtrack. |

I started going to a lot of movies during the mid to late nineties in Berkeley. The UC had a different double feature almost every day, and there were lots of other rep houses in the area. Before that period I had never walked out of a movie--like many here. 'Well I paid for it. Might as well stick around and try to get something for it.' Then one day I had a revelation--I'm not going to waste any more of my life watching ****ty movies from now on. I probably like less than a third of movies I go to, and so I got on this almost fanatical streak. I mean, really, you know in the first 10 min if a movie just has no chance. And my goal was to get out by then. And it felt so good stepping outside with an extra hour of my life back. Naturally I don't remember a lot of them. A few examples:
The Closet (the French movie about a closted guy). "funny" for tittering, overweight middle age people. nice thing about this one was it was a multiplex, so I got to walk into Beijing Bicyle. Shakespeare in Love. Paltrow was bad enough, but I bolted literally on Affleck's second line. Only movie I've walked out of twice: Blow Up. The lead actor was so unbearable. I went for a burrito across from the UC to wait for The Conformist on the double feature. I got back a little early. tried to stick it out. and had to go for a horchata. now I'm actually coming around to Blow Up a little, though. (certainly like The Conversation better.) Red Dessert. or some other antonioni. Country Preacher. or whatever that Bresson was. something by Mizoguchi. well there are dozens anyway. one thing I've never done is ask for my money back. aren't you supposed to do that? (not that I'd ever ask at a rep house (if there are any anymore).) I guess my very first walk out was Raging Bull but that was b/c I was a kid and my father didn't anticipate that there would be cursing. he got his money back. |
